‘The View:’ Whoopi Goldberg Ripped As Giant Hypocrite
The View host Whoopi Goldberg is being ripped as a giant hypocrite amid writer and actor strikes in Hollywood.
The seasoned talk show host took to the show Monday to explain why she and her co-hosts are still able to film, despite the escalating strikes. But Whoopi’s explanation fell flat with some critics. And now she’s being called a hypocrite. Read on to find out what Whoopi said that has people so infuriated, and why they think she’s a hypocrite.
Whoopi Explained Why She And Fellow View Hosts Can Still Film
Writers and actors are currently striking together in Hollywood for the first time in over sixty years. This has led many projects to grind to a halt. Late-night shows are running re-runs due to a lack of writers. And movie and television projects currently gearing up for filming have been paused as uncertainty swirls amid the strikes.
This led many fans of the daytime talk show The View to wonder if their favorite would also turn to re-runs indefinitely while the strike works itself out. When the show aired a pre-recorded episode last week, fans were sure the show would be pausing. However, the hosts returned to their desks on Monday. And host Whoopi Goldberg took a moment to address fan concerns about the show’s future.
She explained that like soap operas and other daytime shows, The View is under a different type of contract from screenwriters and Hollywood actors. This means that they are not affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike and they will be able to keep working. Whoopi expressed solidarity with and support for the striking industry professionals.
The View Co-Host Whoopi Goldberg Ripped As A Giant Hypocrite
However, many fans took to the internet to point out an important fact: Whoopi Goldberg is in fact an actor first. From Sister Act to Star Trek and beyond, Whoopi’s acting portfolio is impressive.
They slammed Whoopi as a “Hypocrite” and insisted that she join her fellow striking actors. One fan wrote online that Whoopi says she wants the strike to work out for everyone. They added, “However, that makes it clear she’s taking a side and saying actors and writers don’t deserve a fair wage.” The fan added that Whoopi seems to think, “idc I’m to old for this to affect me.” Another fan accused Whoopi of breaking the strike. They added, “Whoopi Goldberg, you are an actress first.” Yet another added that the other hosts could reasonably keep working. However, as an Oscar winner, they wrote, “Whoopi is a hypocrite!”
Do you think Whoopi Goldberg should join her fellow actors on strike? Or should she stick it out with her co-hosts on The View and keep the talk show going? Let us know your thoughts in the comments. And catch The View on weekdays from 11 AM to 12 PM EST on ABC.
