Fans Concerned ‘The View’ Hosts Have Quit Show
Fans are concerned that the hosts of The View might have quit the show following the SAG-AFTRA strike. This all started when The View was not a live episode on Friday and now fans are worried there won’t be any new shows coming up in the foreseeable future.
Here is a look at what is happening on The View after the strike.
Have The View hosts quit following the strike?
There were several fans online who realized the July 14 episode of the show was pre-recorded. Ana Navarro, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and Alyssa Farah Griffin hosted a day of Hot Topics, but they were not live. Whoopi Goldberg is always off on Fridays. Fans swept onto social media. One wondered if this was a “post-Sag Friday.” Another said they might not know what was going to happen until Monday.
Some fans thought the hosts would quit the show since the SAG-AFTRA strike started. However, even if the hosts leave for the strike, there are no worries. People don’t quit TV shows or movies when a strike happens. They go on strike, but they remain employed by the production. No one will quit The View during the strike. The show also won’t replace them because of union regulations.
With that said, expect the show to go on repeat for a while. Whoopi Goldberg is a high-profile SAG-AFTRA member. This puts her in an interesting position, as when the WGA went on strike, the hosts of The View did not support them and continued on without writers, each of the women just saying what came to mind about the various topics. Now, Goldberg’s own union has gone on strike.
Why is SAG-AFTRA on strike?
When the writers started the WGA strike, they wanted fair compensation, better work conditions, and a guarantee against AI stealing their work. The directors avoided a strike when the DGA struck a backroom agreement and split from their support of the WGA. However, the actors have stuck with the writers and the SAG-AFTRA strike will coincide with the WGA strike, the two groups picketing together.
The actors want the same thing that the writers wanted. They want financial protection from studios using streaming to hide profits and want their share of the money based on those new lucrative financial platforms that only went to studios before. They also want the same protection from AI and studios using AI to replicate the actor’s performances and even using AI to alter their performances without their permission in the future.
This means actors will not work on movies or TV shows until the strike has ended. They also won’t do any voice-over work or trailers. ComicCon will have no actors at the event because they also will not promote any upcoming movies or TV shows. The actors on strike will also not do any interviews or talk show appearances, appear at any awarded shows, or promote anything on social media or podcasts.
This also includes every member of The View panel who is a member of SAG-AFTRA. Are you going to miss the talk shows during the strike? Do you support them wanting fair working conditions? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
