According to producers, filming a Netflix docuseries recently turned into a real-life Jaws experience when the crew got ATTACKED by sharks while trying to work. Netflix Crew ATTACKED By Sharks While Filming Docuseries
According to The Huffington Post, the director and producer of the Netflix docuseries Our Planet II recalled a terrifying experience with a few 15-foot-long tiger sharks while they were filming in Hawaii. At the time, the crew admits they felt like chum in the water to these terrifyingly large tiger sharks.
Speaking to Radio Times, the director, Toby Nowlan, explains they were filming the docuseries in Hawaii when 15-foot tiger sharks began to attack their boat and bite HUGE holes into the vessel.
During an interview with Forbes, the producer, Huw Cordey, shed some light on what the Netflix crew had in the works when they got attacked by sharks.
The original idea was to do an underwater shoot with the tiger sharks waiting in the shallows at Laysan. But the first day the tiger sharks were around, the crew got into these inflatable boats — and two sharks attacked them. It was like something out of ‘Jaws.'”
The producer continued to explain that, while in a panic, the filming crew was roughly 100 meters away from the land when the tiger sharks started to attack. So, they immediately made an “emergency landing.”
Unfortunately, the producer admits they were not able to get the underwater shots they wanted because of the scary attack. Likewise, the producer also revealed the crew got attacked multiple times on the same day by the tiger sharks.
He Said This Attack Was Not Expected
Turns out, this shark attack caught the crew off guard as it wasn’t really typical behavior for the tiger sharks.
The producer continued to explain: “This ‘v’ of water came streaming towards us, and this tiger shark leapt at the boat and bit huge holes in it. The whole boat exploded. We were trying to get it away, and it wasn’t having any of it. It was horrific. That was the second shark that day to attack us.”
He added that the attack was “unusual.” And, the crew realized the sharks partly attacked because they were “incredibly hungry” due to a lack of natural food in the water. So, he believes the sharks attacked the crew with the hopes of getting some food.
