Why Isn’t A New Episode Of ‘American Idol’ On Tonight?

Monday night means one thing for fans of American Idol — a new episode. Unfortunately, fans of the singing competition are in for a bit of disappointment when they tune in tonight and find out a new episode of Americal Idol Season 21 isn’t airing tonight.

What happened to American Idol Season 21, Episode 18? When will a new episode air? Keep reading for an explanation of what happened and why there was a sudden shake-up to the schedule.

Why isn’t a new episode of American Idol on tonight?

For the most part, American Idol has always been pretty consistent with its schedule airing new episodes every Sunday and Monday. A new episode airing tonight shouldn’t come as a total shock as Ryan Seacrest did warn everyone it was happening at the very end of the previous episode.

More specifically, Ryan told everyone to tune in on next Sunday to watch Episode 18 titled “Disney Night.” Understandably, fans are wondering why the episode got pushed back. At best, most are assuming it was to draw out the season coming to an end a little longer. Likewise, the change in schedule also puts the two-hour Season 21 Finale airing on Sunday night instead of Monday night.

Airing on a weekend, fans assume the network could be banking on more people being home from work and tuning in to watch the finale.

Fans can expect Episode 18 titled “Disney Night” to air on Sunday, May 14th. On Monday, May 15th fans will enjoy Episode 19 titled “Journey to the Finale.” Episode 19 is expected to be a bit of a recap of the entire season. And, on Sunday, May 21st, fans can tune in to watch the Season 21 Finale of American Idol.

Will the series be renewed for Season 22?

As of today, American Idol has not been canceled or renewed for Season 22. Fans have been very outspoken about wanting Simon Cowell to return as well as wanting both Ryan Secrest and Katy Perry removed. At this time, fans really have no reason to suspect the network would cancel the show considering how popular it is even with fans unhappy about some of the judges.
