According to The Futon Critic, this Lifetime movie tells the story of Sherri Papini (King). She is a wife and mother of two children. But, her life changed when she went jogging near her home and disappeared. Therefore, it became a nationwide search, with the attractive young mother on the cover of papers, with people searching for her.
However, three weeks later, on Thanksgiving Day, she appeared. She claimed that she was kidnapped by two Hispanic women. Moreover, she revealed that she was chained and abused by the two women. Her family welcomed her back, happy that she was alive and they were reunited.
Meanwhile, law enforcement was determined to find her kidnappers.
Four years later, law enforcement determined that Sherri lied about her kidnapping. They claimed it was all a hoax. The investigators shared their findings that revealed she was not with two Hispanic women. Instead, she left her family without a word and went to spend time with her ex-boyfriend.
Eventually, Sherri was arrested. Moreover, she was sentenced to 18 months of prison for lying to federal agents. This hoax also wasted precious police time, and cost a lot of money. Most of all, it created fear and hysteria in their community. Her lie caused a lot of people pain and she had to pay.
