Disney+ ‘Hawkeye’ Spinoff ‘Echo’ Hits A Snag
Disney+’s upcoming Hawkeye spinoff series Echo has recently hit a snag. The series that was earlier slated for a Summer 2023 release in the MCU slate has now been shifted to a later date. The spinoff is intended to be the 11th series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and shares continuity with the 2021 Hawkeye series. So, what is this issue about? Keep reading to find out the details!
Disney+ Echo Had An Early 2023 Premiere Target
Created by Marion Dayre, the Disney+ series is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It sees Maya Lopez come back to her hometown as she tries to adjust to her past while reconnecting with her Native American roots. Produced by 20th Television, the series stars Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez who was earlier seen in the Hawkeye series.

As per The Direct, development of the spin-off series started in March 2021 with Emily and Etan Cohen serving as head writers. The series production started in April 2022 in Atlanta and wrapped up by August 2022 targeting an early 2023 release. However, now it seems like the series will not premiere in 2023 at all.
Marion Dayre Moved Echo’s Premiere Date To December 2023
A speculative piece from Murphy’s Multiverse crew, led by the popular insider Charles Murphy suggests that the series will now debut in early 2024. Currently, there is no specific premiere date or month for the series. However, Murphy revealed it could be sometime in January or February 2024.

Additionally, the Echo creator first talked about the delay on Ben Blacker’s podcast. At the Writers Panel, she revealed that the show would at least take one more year from when the podcast aired. The podcast episode aired in December 2022, so Echo will not premiere anytime before December 2023. Further, reprising their roles in the series as Kingpin and Daredevil are Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox respectively. Additional names that joined the cast in May 2022 in undisclosed roles include:
- Tantoo Cardinal
- Cody Lightning
- Chaske Spencer
- Devery Jacobs
- Zahn McClarnon
Director Duo Bert And Bertie Introduced Echo In Hawkeye
Back in December 2020, Alaqua was announced to be a part of Hawkeye as Echo/Maya Lopez. Her character was introduced in the Hawkeye episode titled Echoes directed by Bert & Bertie (Amber Templemore-Finlayson and Katie Ellwood).

The pair didn’t believe it would be right to work with the spinoff as well. The directors believed it would be appropriate for someone from the Native American community to tell the character’s story. Later in March 2022, Sydney Freeland confirmed her involvement in the series as a director.
