‘Yellowstone’ Season 5: Is John Dutton A Good Politician?
In the upcoming season of Yellowstone John Dutton (Kevin Costner), is the new Governor of Montana.
The Duttons have been on this land for nearly 140 years. Montana is in John Dutton’s blood. But, is he a good politician?
Some of the cast of the Paramount show share what they think.
Is John Dutton A Good Politician?
In the previews to Yellowstone Season 5, John Dutton is sworn in as Governor of Montana. Will John Dutton be a good politician?
Variety spoke to some of the cast about this very thing. Their answers may surprise longtime fans of the show.
Wes Bentley predicts a disaster for Governor Dutton. “I think he’s not a very good politician.” He continued explaining how his character, Jamie Dutton, is trying to keep his adopted father out of trouble.
Jamie’s desperately trying to keep him on the right track and keep him behaving like a real government but also not shooting himself in the foot, which seems to be his favorite thing to do.
Bentley also adds that there are “tensions” between Jamie and Beth (Kelly Reilly). She gave him no choice in a matter that will forever disconnect him from her and the Dutton family.
The American Beauty star revealed, “So now we just have a straight-up hate fight.” Moreover, things are very “dangerous.”
It is hard to know whether Taylor Sheridan will be finding new ways to antagonize the Dutton siblings or a new way to find respect and, perhaps even love for each other.
Yellowstone’s Gil Birmingham Reveals John Dutton’s ‘Interests’
Gil Birmingham, who portrays Chief Thomas Rainwater, has his own opinion about Governor Dutton’s skill at politics in Yellowstone Season 5.
Gil explains that Rainwater and Dutton work together to “fight the bigger evil.” However, at the end of the day, “He’s a good governor for his interests.”
Moreover, the Twilight star hints that there is “a lot of ambiguity” about the evolution of their relationship.
Chief Thomas Rainwater has been unsuccessful in reclaiming Native rights to the Dutton ranch. It seems that Dutton is determined to hold on even tighter, as “He’s making decisions that are solely based on his ability to hold on to the ranch, and everybody else can fend for themselves.”
That sounds pretty ominous for Rainwater’s new casino. Will he and Dutton be at odds over this and the 300 jobs this casino will provide?
