Jackson Avery fans rejoice! Jesse Williams will be not only directing a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy but also guest-starring in it. Keep reading to find out what we know so far.

Jackson returns to Grey’s Anatomy

After several years on the show, Dr. Jackson Avery (played by Jesse Williams) left in 2021. His storyline sent him to Boston to take over his family’s foundation – The Harper Avery Foundation (now known as The Catherine Fox Foundation). He was hoping to make a positive impact and even convinced his ex-wife, April Kepner (played by Sarah Drew) to bring herself and their shared daughter with them.

However, that wasn’t the end of Dr. Avery. Now, he is back to not only direct but also guest star in a new episode. According to Deadline this will be the fourth episode that he has directed. The title of the special episode is When I Get to the Border and is the fifth episode in Season 19.

Will April be in the show?

Unfortunately, it has already been revealed that Dr. Kepner will not be returning to this episode. However, in another guest appearance after their departure from the show, it was revealed that their love was rekindled so they are most certainly back together. So, Japril fans can rest easy knowing that April is likely just at home with their daughter, Harriet.

However, unlike April, Debbie Allen will be returning in this episode in her role as Jackson’s mother. Debbie is also a long-running character on the show and is an executive producer. She has not officially left the show yet and continues to make appearances in her role.

Why is Jackson there?

So, what can fans expect from this episode? Well, of course, Dr. Grey is going to play a large part.

Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) goes to Boston where, naturally, she has to catch up with her friend Jackson. Of course, with two doctors as outstanding as Dr. Grey and Dr. Avery, it seems likely that there will be some interesting talks between the two of them. Plus, it should be nice for fans to get a chance to see how The Catherine Fox Foundation is doing and if there are any improvements. After all, that is the whole reason Jackson moved to Boston.
