ABC Cancels ‘A Million Little Things’ After Season 5
A Million Little Things is ending. ABC canceled the series after its fifth season, which is bittersweet for fans of the series, but it will allow it to end how the creators have planned, allowing a cohesive conclusion.
ABC cancels A Million Little Things
While ABC hasn’t officially announced its cancelation, showrunner DJ Nash said that the fifth season of A Million Little Things will be its last. According to Nash, it was a bubble show, especially after the fourth season’s ratings dropped. The fourth season only averaged 4.1 million viewers with a 0.7 demo rating (with Live+7 playback). That was down 20 and 30 percent from its Season 3 totals.
“There’s no question we were a bubble show,” Nash told TVLine. “But everybody creatively at ABC was so supportive and wanted to see [a fifth season] happen. And we knew that if it didn’t happen, our fans would be like, ‘You can’t end a series like that!'” That is because the show ended with a massive cliffhanger with Gary (James Roday Rodriguez) revealing his cancer was likely fatal — right after learning he and Maggie were having a baby.
Gary had been going through chemotherapy and was hiding it from all his friends, including faking food poisoning to cover it up. However, Gary borrowed a camera from Rome to document the pregnancy. When he thought Maggie had failed to get pregnant, he returned the camera. Rome watched the footage and saw a video that Gary had made for his future child. In the video, he said he might not be alive when the child was born.
Deadline reported that ABC asked A Million Little Things creative team not to write the Season 4 finale as a series finale, which brought on a lot of anxiety as renewal negotiations dragged on. Nash said publicly he pitched A Million Little Things with a pre-conceived ending, so if ABC canceled it after Season 4, it would have denied the show a proper ending. Nash wasn’t sure if the show would get a fifth season, but he luckily now has the time to wrap things up for the fans.
When is A Million Little Things Season 5 release date
ABC has not announced yet when A Million Little Things would premiere Season 5. However, the season should start toward the end of September. The first season premiered on September 26, 2018, the second on September 26, 2019 and the fourth on September 22, 2021. The third was late because of COVID-19 delays. With those dates in mind, we predict the show will premiere on September 21, with an outside chance of September 28.
The returning cast should include James Roday Rodriguez (Gary), Romany Malco (Rome), David Giuntoli (Eddie), Christina Moses (Regina), Grace Park (Katherine), Allison Miller (Maggie), Lizzy Greene (Sophie), Tristan Byon (Theo), and Chance Hurstfield (Danny).

I love the show a million little things, it has been a very dramatic show and it’s about basic life and how things work. This socks.
Will miss this show. Thought it was great. Sa
I really loved this show. From the beginning of this show, it allowed me to escape my for 1 hour, my own world of hurt. Very true life situations.
Loved this show . Story lines were very close to my own life experiences. Will be greatly missed.
I agree 100%. It got ridiculous.
Ratings dropped because typically for ABC, they made it about LGBQ and black.
Nailed it!
Yes. It was a wonderful show until the writers turned it into a woke propaganda joke of a show.
Very disappointing as it could have been great.
