Honey Boo Boo Discusses Social Media Negativity
Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson has been dealing with social media trolls for a long time. They have criticized her family and her weight since she first came on the scene. Now, as she has gotten older, it has not gotten easier. So, how does the sixteen-year-old reality star handle public scrutiny? She recently opened up to OK! and shared the secret to not letting the negativity get her down.
Honey Boo Boo’s Rise To Fame
She was just a little tot when Alana made a name for herself as the adorable Honey Boo Boo. On Toddlers and Tiaras, she showed she could wow an audience as a pageant girl. Her mother, Mama June Shannon helped push her to success which ultimately landed her and her family their own reality show. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo followed Alana, Mama June, Alana’s dad Sugar Bear, and Alana’s three sisters. It was considered a guilty pleasure as the family was offbeat and quirky. June had no filter and liked to feed her children crazy meals, a mish-mosh of sorts.
As eclectic as they were, they were not immune to public scrutiny for their appearance. Both Mama June and Honey Boo Boo had weight issues and the family did not eat super healthy. Once the show was canceled, June and her older daughters underwent dramatic makeovers. As for Alana, she kept trying to live her best life. It is hard to be a teenager in the spotlight and fans were highly critical of her weight. There was even a point where she was tested for diabetes. Her life, sadly, has not gotten easier.
Survival Mode
The girl formerly known as Honey Boo Boo had to develop pretty thick skin. In 2019, she had to go live with her sister, Pumpkin after her mother got heavily into drugs. Additionally, Mama June got arrested, went to rehab, and got sober. During all of this, Alana kept on smiling though now, viewers think she is growing up too fast. She wears long nails and lashes and has caught heat for having an older boyfriend. Yet, she is still trying to not let anyone get her down. What attributes to her positive attitude? This is what she had to say.
The teenager started: “I don’t pay attention to anyone on social media.” She continued to tell OK!: “I don’t respond to negative comments. I figure that person who is making the rude comment must be going through something themselves.” This has not been easy as she limits what she posts about her boyfriend, Dralin Carswell after too much scrutiny. Finally, she adds that she is just “used to it after all of this time. Hopefully, people will just realize that she is still a kid and is figuring out who she is.
