Matt James Says Ups & Downs Molded Future With Rachael Kirkconnell
Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell faced more challenges than past reality television couples. After she won his season on The Bachelor, some things came out about her past that set off a hailstorm of events. The racially insensitive picture led to an emotional After the Final Rose and the exit of Chris Harrison from the franchise.
Being challenged and facing everything they went through, they seem to be stronger today than ever before. Matt says the hardships were what makes their relationship work. Matt has come a long way from the quarantine crew where he and Tyler Cameron rode out the pandemic with Hannah Brown. He’s written a book, First Impressions, and has been thrilled to share his truth with others.
Matt James Is Confident In His Relationship
Matt James told People, that he felt like the world was against the two of them. They had a lot of people they didn’t know talking about their relationship. He said the best thing at the time was “to remove ourselves from the show, from everything.”
Matt said Rachael is looking for homes near where James lives in Miami. He said, “We’re not worried about pleasing everyone.” James said finding a compatible partner is the important thing.
He Addressed Clare Crawley’s Shade
Matt James talks about a lot of things that shaped his path in the book, including the shade thrown at him by Clare Crawley. Named as an upcoming contestant on her season, Matt had apparently already started making Cameos and doing interviews. Clare immediately said he was in it for the wrong reasons, not knowing anything about him.
According to Reality Tea Matt said that Bachelor Nation came to his defense talking about the good he was trying to do. Matt felt at a loss when he read Clare’s comment because it shocked him. He said he’d never spoken to her and was not sure how to take it. He said he included the story in his memoir as a lesson for people to give others the benefit of the doubt.
They’ll Move Forward Stronger Than Ever
Rachael apologized for her “ignorance,” with the photograph and admitted she had a lot to learn. She felt like Matt James was willing to teach her and that they would make each other better. Matt, for his part, said he wished he’d handled After the Final Rose better if he knew he would want to make things work with Rachael. Matt feels like now he and Kirkconnell have a strong foundation they can keep building on.
