Netflix Original: ‘Emily In Paris’ Season 2 To ‘Focus On Diversity’ [TRAILER]
Season 1 of the Netflix Original series Emily in Paris did not go down too well with the French. Each episode was full of clichés about the country and its citizens in its idealized portrayal of Paris. However, Lily Collins, who stars in and produces the series, has listened to the feedback and criticism. In an interview, Collins said that Season 2 of Emily in Paris will “focus on diversity and inclusivity.
Netflix Original series Emily in Paris
The first season of the Netflix Original series Emily in Paris attracted criticism for its clichés of the French. In fact, the French news outlet 20 Minutes wrote about the series. It condemned the berets, the baguettes, the croissants, “hostile waiters” and “irascible concierges.”
The article also spoke of “lovers and the mistresses” and the “inveterate philanderers.” According to the news outlet, if you can name a cliché about France and the French, you’ll find it in Emily in Paris.
According to its star, Lily Collins, this is all set to change in Season 2 of the series. Speaking to Elle UK, for its December issue, the actress said she has listened to the feedback about Season 1. Collins said she had heard Netflix viewers’ concern over Emily in Paris, which launched on the streaming channel last October.
Diversity and inclusivity in Season 2
In the interview with Elle UK, Lily spoke of herself as Emily, but also as a producer of the series. She has heard people’s thoughts, concerns, questions, likes and dislikes about the show. Collins said certain things spoke to the time that we are living in, what is right, moral and correct.

The actress who plays Emily said she really wants diversity and inclusion “in front of and behind the camera” as something they should put their focus on. What she found important was hiring new people in front of the camera and giving new storylines to different characters.
About Emily in Paris on Netflix
Created by Darren Star of Sex and the City fame, the series tells the story of Emily Cooper. Cooper is an ambitious American marketing executive who lands her dream job in the French capital.
While the series became a hit for Netflix when it premiered, it was quickly slammed by the French. Besides 20 Minutes, the series was slammed by Charles Martin, a critic for Première. He wrote, “Frankly, watching Emily in Paris there’s plenty to feel insulted about.” In his critique, he also noted that they decided to caricature the French, the authors didn’t hold back.
The Guardian quotes RTL Radio, who said that between the berets, cocktail dresses and spotless streets, Parisians would not find it easy to recognize their daily lives.
In her interview, Collins said that filming for Season 2 took place during the pandemic. This meant that the French capital was “very empty.” In fact, she said there were no Americans around, as they weren’t allowed in the country. Speaking of the strangeness, Lily said that the only accents you would hear were French, which she said was “also really lovely.”
Season 2 of Emily in Paris is set to release on Netflix on December 22, 2021.
