Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars and Knives Out, is one of the executive producers, along with Brad Pitt and Rosamund Pike.

Synopsis of the new sci-fi series

The three books in Chinese author Liu Cixin’s Three-Body Problem trilogy tell the story of first human contact with alien life. Meanwhile, the aliens come from a planet called Trisolaris, leading to a conflict between humans and aliens.

This conflict brews over many years, leading to scientist Ye Wenjie getting disillusioned by the government and humanity in general. He willingly helps the Trisolarians to discover Earth’s location and prepares for invasion. Meanwhile, it will take the aliens a couple of centuries to get to Earth, so humans still have time to prepare.

Several years later, scientist Ye is the leader of a secret organization of alien invasion supporters. However, the group breaks down into two factions. Some want the Tsolarians to invade and forcibly improve humanity. However, the others want the aliens to exterminate humanity altogether.

For their part, the Tsolarians have been conducting various forms of espionage over the years. This has led to mysterious deaths and suicides, as well as disappearances of key scientific figures. Meanwhile, as the years go by, the conflict gets closer and tenser.
