Netflix Original Series ‘Echoes’ From The Man Behind ’13 Reasons Why’
Netflix has teamed up once again with Brian Yorkey, the creator, writer and producer of the series 13 Reasons Why. The result will be a psychological thriller titled Echoes. The series tells the story of identical twin sisters but gives the “twin swap” cliché a much darker, exciting spin.
Netflix Original series Echoes
Australian writer and producer Vanessa Gazy is writing and creating the limited series Echoes. She is working alongside Brian Yorkey on the new, exciting project. Meanwhile, the other producer of the psychological thriller series is Quinton Peeples. He has worked on 13 Reasons Why, The Last Ship and Runaways. Imogen Banks (Offspring and Puberty Blues) will executive produce the series.
Speaking of the Netflix thriller, Gazy said her journey with Echoes started with an Australian initiative led by executive producer Imogen Banks. Imogen is behind an initiative to bring new female voices to television. Vanessa said how excited she is to bring this show to a wide and international audience. Especially as this is alongside the “formidable showrunning duo that is Brian Yorkey and Quinton Peeples.”
Yorkey also spoke about working on Echoes, which is part of an overall deal with Netflix to develop more TV series and films. He said he is excited to be embarking on Echoes with Quinton, Vanessa, Imogen and the Netflix team. However, Brian also said he is eagerly looking forward to what he hopes will be many more years of “making cool stuff with Netflix.”
About the psychological thriller
Echoes is a psychological mystery thriller about two identical twins, Leni and Gina Dimitri. The twin sisters share a dangerous secret, in that, since they were young, they have secretly swapped lives. This life-swapping has led to a double life as adults. The twins happily share two homes, two husbands and one child. However, their carefully planned life is thrown into chaos when one of the sisters goes missing.
Of the two cast members announced so far, Matt Bomer, best known for his role in White Collar. will headline the series. Matt has also starred in American Horror Story and the Netflix film, The Boys in the Band. He plays the role of Jack Beck, a character described as the “boy-next-door” who grew up to be the husband everybody wishes they had.
Beck is a “soulful, loving father” and a valuable member of the community. He runs a veterinary practice and a horse farm on land that has been in his family for many generations. However, when his wife mysteriously disappears, it is Jack who has the most to lose as her secret life comes into the open.
Actress Michelle Monaghan plays Leni and Gina. She has previously featured in the Netflix series Messiah and El Camino. While not mentioning the series, Monaghan recently made a post to Instagram, cleverly captioning the image “Twinning.”
Episodes and release date of Echoes
According to Deadline, the limited series will have seven episodes, each lasting an hour and production is set to start this month in Wilmington, NC. Currently, there is no news as to the release date of the new psychological thriller. However, hopefully, it will hit our screens at some stage in 2022.
