Rosanna and Maureen on Return to Amish
As Season 6 of Return to Amish gets ready to premiere on Monday, March 22, a teaser trailer has been released for the TLC show. Rosanna opens up in the trailer on her reasons for wanting to leave the strict Amish community in which she was raised.
Rosanna says, “I want to leave the Amish because really all we do is work and sleep, and we’re not allowed to really go out and have fun.” She explained that the Amish live a “strict and simple life to be closer to God.”

However, Rosanna reached out to her cousin Rebecca, who was one of the original stars of Breaking Amish. She has watched Rebecca thrive after her escape to the non-Amish world. Rebecca told Rosanna that it will be hard. Rosanna quotes her as saying it is a really hard decision to make. This is due to the fact that you don’t get to see your family anymore. She added, “You don’t get to see your nieces and nephews.”
Rosanna isn’t going it alone
What will make life a little easier is the fact that Rosanna isn’t on the journey alone. She will be accompanied by her friend Maureen, who is also planning on leaving home. However, while they are both excited over their new adventure, they do realize the sacrifice they are going to make.
In the clip, Maureen says she loves being an Amish school teacher and leaving the Amish will be sad. She says she won’t be able to see her students anymore and she will miss them very much. In fact, she feels attached to them and knows that if she leaves the Amish, her students won’t respect her. It’s likely, they will think she is a bad person.
Rosanna’s biggest fear on Return to Amish
Meanwhile, Rosanna says her biggest fear is that she will be shunned by the community. She also worries that her parents won’t talk to her anymore. She says, “They’ll just consider me not their child — that’s the biggest part that I’m afraid of.”
Despite their fears, both Maureen and Rosanna are determined to leave the Amish. They plan to meet up with fellow Return to Amish stars Sabrina, Jeremiah and Carmella. With them, they will be able to experience many “firsts” in the non-Amish world. However, Rosanna says that when she leaves, nothing will ever be the same.
