Bari Weiss Was ‘Furious’ Over Anderson Cooper’s ’60 Minutes’ Exit Episode
Anderson Cooper recently said goodbye to 60 Minutes, signing off on his last episode. Since he announced his departure a few months prior, various insiders have also weighed in on the story. Recently, one insider talked about Bari Weiss’ reaction to Cooper’s final moments. The insider also shared some words of caution for Cooper.
Anderson Cooper Announced His Exit From 60 Minutes Back In February
Cooper, who is also known for his work with CNN, served as a correspondent for CBS News’ 60 Minutes. Recently, viewers saw his last episode with the program on May 17, 2026, with Cooper having announced his departure three months prior. At the time, Cooper had cited wanting to spend more time with his family as the reason behind the move.
This came about just as CBS News has seen a number of shakeups since the installation of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief. In turn, this came about after Paramount Skydance bought The Free Press, a media company Weiss had founded in 2021.

Since Cooper announced his departure from 60 Minutes, various insiders have been weighing in on the story. As previously reported, for example, it was once alleged that she was willing to give him a substantial pay increase to get him to stay. Reportedly, he was also considered to take over CBS Evening News before the role went to Tony Dokoupil.
According to a report by Oliver Darcy at Status, an insider had recently described Cooper’s exit as “another black eye for Bari.” This comes out as Cooper spent his final episode calling for the show’s “independence.”
During the episode, Cooper shared, “I hope 60 Minutes remains 60 Minutes. There’s very few things that have been around for as long as 60 Minutes has and maintain the quality that it has.” While noting that change was inevitable and good be a good thing, he expressed the hope that the show doesn’t lose its “core.”
A Source Warned That Cooper’s Final Message Could Backfire On Him
In Darcy’s latest report, it was highlighted that Cooper’s words were a double blow for CBS News. Not only did they come from a prominent journalist, but the words were also shared by the network itself.
Darcy also claimed that the moment left an impact on Weiss. As he shared, “Behind the scenes, Weiss was furious, Status has learned. Indeed, according to people familiar with the matter, Weiss had not been given advance notice of Cooper’s remarks. And was effectively blindsided by them.”

“The 42-year-old editor was also not especially pleased by Cooper using the CBS News platform to take a thinly veiled swipe at her. And it must have especially hurt after Weiss personally made overtures to Cooper with the aim of giving him a larger presence at the network. Only for the star anchor to turn her down.”
However, Darcy also warned that Cooper’s words could end up backfiring on him. At this time, Paramount Skydance is hoping to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN’s parent company, of which he is still affiliated.
