On February 4, 2026, Tatum shared a black-and-white photo on Instagram showing himself in a hospital donning a hospital gown while lying down. In a caption, he wrote, “Just another day. Another challenge. This one is gonna be hard. But whatever. Let’s get it in.”

While the post didn’t give much information about what was going on, an Instagram Story from the actor shared that he was getting treatment for a “separated shoulder.”

In a post shared a few weeks later, Tatum showed off his shoulder scars. As he wrote at the time, “Not gonna lie, it’s my fault for not asking. I thought it was gonna be two little holes. Apparently not the case.”

Commenters Shared Mixed Reactions To The Post On Social Media

Tatum continued, “Well, it doesn’t matter anyhow i like scars anyway and it’s feeling stronger day by day, so thank you, doc. Also, I do like going through airport security, wondering if my shoulder is gonna shut off the machine.”

According to Healthline, the recovery process could take around four to six months. It was also noted that, while many cases do not require surgical treatments, this can be the case for more severe injuries, especially to the acromioclavicular or AC joint.

The article also listed things that people shouldn’t do while under the recovery process. This can range from lifting weights to sleeping on the side. In general, patients are advised not to touch the site or to disturb their stitches.

Taking to social media, many fans expressed support for Tatum during this time and assured him that he will overcome this. As one fan wrote, “You got this. Overcoming obstacles is your superpower. Sending you so much love and thinking of you always. Speedy recovery.”

Admittedly, some fans felt that he was being a bit overdramatic, especially as the Instagram post didn’t have much context. However, others sympathized with the situation, including those who’ve endured similar issues themselves, and even came to the actor’s defense. Some comments included:

    • “Feel better, I can relate to shoulder injury journey, and recovery. Make sure you do the rehab, and rehab homework.”
    • “You up there making it sound like your fighting for your life when you’ve got an ouch on your shoulder. Doing men no favors with this post.”
    • “I’m definitely going to be praying for you. I’m going through some serious health issues too right now, so I understand. Hugs.”
    • “Bro! Sending you love. Good energy and healing. Vibes. You Got This!”
    • “May your OWMS heal quickly (Old White Man Shoulder.)”
    • “Yall wait til you have to have surgery like this. Shoulder surgery is no joke and can take months to heal. How about not mocking someone for being nervous about a surgery.”
