The “Hot Topics” segment of The View is a time for the hosts to debate current issues in the country. Things got heated between Whoopi Goldberg and Sara Haines during a recent segment of the ABC talk show. Keep reading to find out why the two hosts clashed.

The View Addresses A Big World issue

The View returned from a holiday hiatus just in time for a huge world event. The U.S. captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife in an overnight military operation on January 3, 2026. They were transported to New York City to face charges of drug trafficking and more. The covert operation faced criticism for going ahead without the approval of Congress.

The hosts of the ABC talk show hotly debated the actions by the U.S. Several of the hosts took issue with the U.S. appearing to break international law by entering another country and capturing their leader. However, Alyssa Farah Griffin pointed out that other Presidents have done the same with little backlash.

“We’ve done it for years. “[Muammar] Gaddafi. Saddam [Hussein],” she said. “But let’s just be consistent with other administrations that, under just as tenuous of authority, have taken [people] out. We all agree that without a good plan in place, it goes disastrously,” the former Trump staffer continued.

The debate was mostly cordial until things got heated between Whoopi Goldberg and Sara Haines.

Whoopi Goldberg & Sara Haines Get In Heated Argument

Sara Haines identifies as a right-leaning Independent. She was surprisingly critical of the U.S. capturing the Venezuelan leader. “My problem is watching the Stephen Miller interview and watching Donald Trump and watching [Marco] Rubio is no one’s on point with the transparency. This is the ‘transparency administration,’ weren’t we told that? I don’t see transparency,” she said.

The View co-host continued, “What I hear from Stephen Miller is just about might and force. They’re coming in and they’re leaving the regime that they just overtook in and not bringing in the resistance. All of it doesn’t make sense.”

Whoopi Goldberg chimed in with the reminder that President Trump initially cited drugs as the reason for attacks on Venezuela. Sara Haines interrupted her, saying, “That’s my point!”

“Well, make it then,” The View moderator snapped back. Whoopi Goldberg ended the segment shortly after the heated exchange.

Fans Take Sides

Fans of The View expect Sara Haines to be more vocal about her opinions in the coming months after Alyssa Farah Griffin leaves the show for maternity leave. In the meantime, some viewers took to social media to relish Whoopi Goldberg snapping at Sara Haines:

  • “Sara just talks to hear herself speak hardly anything of substance”
  • “Sara is such a laughing stock at this point. So irrelevant”
  • “It takes 3-5 business days to make her point and when she does, nobody cares to understand.”
  • “She constantly has to ask to finish her point because she says a whole mess of irrelevant crap first.”

The recent incident wasn’t the first time Whoopi Goldberg and Sara Haines argued, and it won’t be the last. Tell us in the comments what you think about the moderator snapping at her co-host.
