Like many shows, The View will be off the air for the holidays. The morning talk show returns with new shows in early January. But the popular talk show won’t be off the air for the next two weeks. The hosts pre-recorded a slew of shows in the New York City studio ahead of the holiday hiatus.
Fans who tuned in on Friday, December 19, were in for a special surprise. Whoopi Goldberg is usually off on Fridays but she was there, along with all of the other co-hosts, for a special holiday-themed episode.
Viewers took to social media to share their shock and appreciation for Whoopi Goldberg’s unexpected appearance. One fan wrote on social media, “Yay whoop on Friday!”
Another added, “Was hesitant to watch it because whoopi normally isn’t on Friday but now I’m additionally excited.” A third fan of The View said, “Welcome to a #JOYous Friday before the Christmas break with Whoopi.”
Fans of the talk show agree that Whoopi Goldberg has seemed happier after she returned from her break earlier this month. She was in Italy for two weeks to film an upcoming appearance on the country’s popular soap opera Un Posto Al Sole.
The View Fans Rage Against Missing Holiday Tradition
It has been a heartbreaking few weeks for anyone who watches the news. There were several mass shootings. Famous movie director Rob Reiner and his wife were murdered in a shocking killing. Whoopi Goldberg took the news hard, as did many viewers at home.
Celebrating the holiday season is a great way to escape all the devastation happening around the world. For many years, The View brought in a special guest to perform a fan-favorite holiday song.
Darlene Love has performed her Christmas classic “Christmas (Baby Please Please Come Home)” on The View since 2015. But this year, she took her performance to late-night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
New Edition took her place on The View and performed a medley of hits on Friday’s episode.
Fans took to social media to rage against the shocking change to a beloved holiday tradition. “New Addition was a poor substitute for Darlene Love,” one fan vented.
Another shared why Darlene Love left The View. “She said she left The View because producers always wanted her to perform with somebody else and not just be the main act. I think Fallon is letting her do whatever she wants and she likes that freedom.”
So, while fans were happy to see Whoopi Goldberg on Friday, they missed Darlene Love’s traditional holiday performance.

I used to love Whoopi and Oprah but not so much anymore over ungodly things said BUT with that being said, I would give $10000 to be able to slap Joy??? Behar (no not slap) punch her in her face and give her a nose bleed! Ignorant bitch, rude, hateful, she needs a good ass whooping from this 85 year old lady!!!!!! She should not be on tv!!! Does anybody watch that show? I don’t but I read about her shenanigans on news breaks
