‘CBS Mornings’ Tony Dokoupil Out: Who Will Replace Him?
Tony Dokoupil’s time at CBS Mornings has come to an end. Thanks to this, there has been some speculation on just who will be taking over his role on the show. Meanwhile, information has also come out about where viewers can expect Dokoupil next.
Tony Dokoupil Was Part Of CBS Mornings Back When It Was Still CBS This Morning
Dokoupil is a broadcast journalist and author who has worked for various outlets. This includes NBC News, MSNBC, Newsweek, and The Daily Beast. For many, Dokoupil is likely best known for his work with CBS.
Dokoupil joined the network in 2016 as a New York-based correspondent. In 2019, he became a co-anchor for CBS This Morning, before it was renamed CBS Mornings.

Thanks to this, viewers have come to know Dokoupil as part of a trio for Gayle King and Nate Burleson. However, this is coming to an end. It was announced that he would be departing CBS Mornings as 2025 comes to an end.
However, viewers have not seen the last of Dokoupil with CBS. He will now take over CBS Evening News, which previously featured Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson.
There’s Already Been Speculation About Some Names Who Could Be Joining The Show
On the other hand, this has got some viewers wondering just who will be taking on Dokoupil’s seat at CBS Mornings. At this time, the network hasn’t officially announced his successor.
CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss also hasn’t revealed any future plans for the show at this time. However, there is already some speculation on who it could be.

According to TV Insider, Vladimir Duthiers could be a “possible replacement” to fill in Dokoupil’s shoes. As the outlet noted, he has been a correspondent for CBS News since 2014. He is a featured host on the show, and he is often featured in the broadcast. He has also been anchoring CBS Saturday Morning amid network shake-ups.
In addition, Lindsey Reiser has also served as a co-host for CBS Saturday Morning, joining the network in 2024. She could also be a possible replacement.
While it makes sense for CBS to choose someone already on staff, they could go in a different direction. Weiss also recently hired ABC News’ Matt Gutman as a CBS News correspondent. This could mean that CBS might look to talent from other networks to fill in the slot. Back in October, TMZ also reported that Weiss could be interested in Fox News talent transferring to CBS News.
As previously reported, there has been some speculation that Hoda Kotb could be joining the show, possibly taking over for Gayle King, especially as her contract is up for May 2026. With this recent development, it’s possible viewers could see Kotb sitting alongside King instead.
Viewers Can Expect To See Dokoupil On CBS Evening News In Early January 2026
That said, Kotb leaving her position on Today, as the outlet suggested, to spend time with family and on other ventures, makes this seem “unlikely.” On the other hand, should King depart next year, this could lead to an even greater shift for the network.
That said, it’s entirely possible that the network isn’t going to hire anyone to take over for Dokoupil. Viewers will have to keep watching CBS Mornings to see what happens next.
