Indiana Man & Son Accused Of Killing Neighbor’s Dogs With Bow & Arrow
A father and son pair in Indiana are facing charges after a hunting trip gone horribly wrong. The father has been accused of shooting and killing two pet dogs with a bow and arrow. The dogs’ owner reportedly contacted authorities after finding the remains of one of her dogs near her home.
A Local Hunter Shared An Eye Witness Account Of What Happened During Deer Hunting
John Lowe and his son, Hayden, were reportedly out deer hunting in Indiana this past October. During the outing, the father allegedly decided to shoot and kill two of the neighborhood’s pets.
The dogs were described as a beagle and a chocolate Labrador retriever, named Josie and Bear, respectively. On October 21, police were called to a street in LaPorte after a woman found the beagle on nearby property to her home.

According to People, the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office shared, “The beagle had sustained a fatal injury to the rib cage area.” The woman also reported that her chocolate lab was still missing.
Investigators later claimed that a local hunter also alleged “that John Lowe was not only responsible for the death of the beagle, but also the death of the chocolate Labrador.” Authorities later “learned that Hayden Lowe had discarded the chocolate Labrador at another location.”
According to The Sound Bend Tribune, a probable cause affidavit claimed that the men were hunting on private property with the permission of the landowner. Another hunter in the area claimed that the two dogs were making noise as they were going through the woods. As shared with police, the dogs then started loudly yelping as they ran.
The Use Of Arrows Could Lead To A Severe Sentence If Convicted, According To A Local Prosecutor
The hunter came down from a tree stand to investigate what had happened. He allegedly saw Lowe’s son dragging the lab’s body through a walking path. Lowe reportedly told the hunter were searching for a place to discard the animal’s remains.
John later admitted to shooting and killing the dogs while speaking with police. Lowe reportedly denied that the actions were out of concern that the dogs were scaring away local deer. He was then charged with two felonies for “killing a domestic animal and for obstruction of justice.” Hayden himself also faces the latter charge of felony obstruction of justice. The father and son were later released on cash bond.

LaPorte County Prosecutor Sean Fagan noted that the use of arrows could influence some judges to push for a severe sentence if a conviction occurs. He explained, “That’s something we’d have to look at, and that would vary by case. We can’t do more than what the law allows.” Each count carries a possible sentence to six to 30 months.
