Food Network Star Shot 11 Times, Gives Recovery Update
A Food Network star was shot eleven times in a robbery. He opened up about his difficult recovery. Keep reading to find out all the details about the near-death experience and which fan-favorite star of the network was there for him.
Food Network Star Shot 11 Times In Robbery
You would think that the only danger of being a chef is a bad burn or a sliced finger. But one Food Network star faced a harrowing experience during what was a relaxing night out. Tobias Dorzon, who appeared on Guy’s Grocery Games and Tournament of Champions, was on a dinner date with his girlfriend when the evening turned into their worst nightmare.

He shared details of the scary incident with PEOPLE magazine. The couple had finished dining at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in downtown Washington, D.C. They took a ride-share back to the Food Network star’s home in Hyattsville, Maryland.
Before getting out of the Uber, Tobias Dorzon noticed a car stopped behind the Uber, but didn’t think anything of it. He assumed the other car would pass once the Uber moved. Instead, gunshots rang out when he and his girlfriend stepped out of the car.
Tobias Dorzon was shot eleven times during the robbery but miraculously survived. His girlfriend was also shot. Multiple people were involved but only one was caught. 21-year-old Devin Demetrius Spivey faces over a dozen charges, including attempted murder and armed robbery. The suspects made off with the Food Network star’s pricey watch and other items totaling $100,000.

Tobias Dorzon Opens Up About Difficult Recovery & Support From Fellow Food Network Star
Despite being shot multiple times, Tobias Dorzon was able to FaceTime his brother. A neighbor called 911. When he woke up in the hospital, doctors told the chef that he likely wouldn’t be able to walk again due to his injuries.
But the former NFL player beat the odds. After multiple surgeries and physical therapy, he made a stunning recovery. “For somebody that just never really been in trouble, I thought coming back home to build something in my hometown, being a hometown hero, something like that could never happen to me,” he told PEOPLE about the shooting.
Tobias Dorzon wasn’t alone during his recovery. He had his girlfriend by his side and the full support of Food Network star Guy Fieri. The chefs reunited in a wholesome video posted on Instagram earlier this year.

“Even after the shooting, he was constantly on the phone with me checking in, making sure the medical staff were taking care of me, offering to order food for everyone, and just giving me words of encouragement. He’s been here for me the whole time, every step of the way,” Tobias Dorzon said about his friend’s support.
He Make Triumphant Return In New Show
The shooting happened in November 2024. A year later, Chef Tobias is ready to get back in the kitchen. He is one of the competitors on Tournament of Champions: All-Star Christmas.
The show is hosted by Guy Fieri and premieres on the Food Network on Wednesday, November 5, at 8 PM Eastern time. Tune in to see with your own eyes how far he’s come.
