Michigan Mom Murders Teen Son In Birthday Death Pact
In something straight out of the pages of a horror movie script, a mom in Holland, Michigan, murdered her own teen son to fulfill a birthday death pact. So, what happened with this situation, and what else do we know about it?
Murder By A Familiar Suspect Is A Common Occurrence
When people read about gruesome murders that make the rounds on the internet or in the newspaper, the odds are good that the murder in question is committed by someone close to the victim. While violent and murderous acts can also be carried out by strangers, the first place that authorities often look is at those closest to the victim to determine a suspect.
As horrific as it may be to think about, looking to a relative as a suspect is more common than many people would like to admit. Sometimes this may involve a freak accident, like a gun going off by accident, and other times, these acts against family members are deliberate.
In one case, coming out of Holland, Michigan, a mother pled guilty to a second-degree murder charge for killing her own son. Based on reports, she did this because, “She advised her son asked her to help him stop breathing because he did not want to turn 18.”
Michigan Mother Pleads Guilty In The Murder Of Her Son
According to TooFab, Katie Lee “pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of her 17-year-old son Austin Pikaart. She admitted in court to giving her son a ‘mind-altering substance’ and then stabbing him in an attempt to help him fulfill what she called a ‘death wish’ before he turned 18. As part of the deal, she also pleaded guilty to a charge of resisting and obstructing police and a newly-added charge of torture. She will be sentenced January 19 to 60 to 90 years behind bars.”
First, the mother cut her son’s wrists as he was “incapacitated” from the illicit substances. From there, she cut his throat, which ultimately resulted in his death. Lee also used a kitchen knife to carry out these gruesome acts. When police arrived on the scene, they had to subdue Lee, beginning with a taser, as she would not put down the knife. It seems, in her perfect scenario, she intended to join her son by having the police “kill” her. However, that was not ultimately the case.

- A second commenter added, “Just – WHY?! Hopefully the child had no siblings- she has no more children. This is beyond sad.”
