Former talk show host and DWTS alum Wendy Williams has been under guardianship since 2022. She was placed under a protective order after being deemed incapable of taking care of herself by the court. In 2024, Lifetime and A&E Network aired a documentary about Wendy Williams’ alleged decline in health.

Her guardian, Sabrina E. Morrissey, filed a lawsuit against A&E for airing the documentary. The lawsuit was recently put on pause. Keep reading to find out the latest in the shocking situation.

What’s Wrong With Wendy Williams?

Wendy Williams’ daytime talk show was beloved by millions. It went off the air in 2022 amid growing concerns about her health. The Dancing With The Stars alum first experienced medical problems in 2017 when she fainted on live TV. That incident was chalked up to overheating while wearing a costume. But it was just the beginning.

Following the fainting incident, Wendy Williams spoke out about being diagnosed with Graves’ disease, an immune system disorder, and lymphedema, a condition causing swelling, usually in the arms or legs.

In 2024, her medical team announced that Wendy Williams was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia. A decline in her cognitive abilities was one reason for the guardianship.

Medical Evaluation For Lawsuit Complete

The former talk show host’s guardian, Sabrina E. Morrissey, unsuccessfully sued A&E in 2024 to prevent the Where Is Wendy Williams? documentary from airing. The documentary aired as scheduled. But the battle wasn’t over yet.

The guardian filed another lawsuit claiming the network exploited Wendy Williams’ medical condition. The network filed a counterclaim and demanded a medical evaluation as part of their defense.

TMZ reported this week that the medical evaluation has been completed. “Medical specialists have formed an opinion concerning [Wendy’s] current neurological condition and diagnosis, including whether she has the ability to make decisions,” the outlet reported.

However, the results of the evaluation weren’t made public.

Wendy Williams’ Lawsuit Against A&E Over Documentary Paused For Now

Wendy Williams’ lawyer noted that the evaluation was complete in her petition to put the lawsuit on hold for now. Some of the talk show host’s family members are in the process of challenging the guardianship.

Due to that, the current guardian asked the court to pause the lawsuit until the matter of the guardianship is resolved by another court.

Lawyers for A&E agreed to the pause, but with a stipulation. They want Wendy Williams to sit for a deposition now over concerns of her rapidly declining neurological state.

A judge has yet to rule on delaying the lawsuit or the status of the guardianship.
