‘ID’ Wendy Williams’ New ‘Trapped’ Documentary Premiere Date

Fans of Wendy Williams have seen the “Free Wendy” movement develop over the past months as more stories have come out concerning the former talk show host. A new documentary is set to be released discussing the story, as Williams is living in an assisted living facility under her guardianship. Investigation Discovery has even shared a release date for its upcoming documentary, Trapped.
Investigation Discovery’s New Documentary Will Explore The ‘Free Wendy’ Movement & Wendy Williams’ Story
Wendy Williams is known to many as the former host of The Wendy Williams Show. However, since 2023, Williams has been living in an assisted living facility, the Coterie, while placed under a guardianship. Around this time, she was also diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.
However, in recent months, Williams has spoken out about her situation, including her diagnosis. Fans have seen the star speak with various outlets, including the radio podcast series, The Breakfast Club. Since then, her fanbase has brought about the “Free Wendy” movement, calling for the star to regain control of her life.

Investigation Discovery and ExtraTV have shared a trailer for the Trapped documentary, which will focus on Williams’ story. As the caption read, “Go inside the #FreeWendy movement and the push by Wendy Williams’ fans and loved ones to have her released from the guardianship she has been under since 2022.”
The caption also revealed the show’s release date. As it shared, “Watch Trapped: What Is Happening To Wendy Williams? on Monday 5/19 at 8/7c on ID and stream on Max.”
According to The Futon Critic, “Trapped: What Is Happening To Wendy Williams goes inside this push for Williams’ release, provides info into her rise to fame and influence on pop culture.” The documentary also “chronicles the personal and professional struggles leading to her guardianship.”
Trapped Serves As The First Collaboration Between Investigation Discovery, Extra, & Telepictures
In addition, “Trapped will feature access to journalists who have covered Williams throughout her career, medical and legal experts who weigh in on her current diagnosis and guardianship status, and extensive archival footage from EXTRA’s vault. Trapped will also showcase an extensive interview with Yazmin Ramos, former Senior Producer on The Wendy Williams Show.”
The documentary is produced for Investigation Discovery by Telepictures in association with Warner Bros. Unscripted Television. Jeremy Spiegel and Theresa Coffino serve as executive producers.

In addition, Matt Ferrell serves as a co-executive producer and Alex Castino is senior supervising producer. It was also noted that the project is the first collaboration between Extra, Investigation Discovery, and Warner Bros. Television Group’s Telepictures.
