HGTV Stars Chip & Joanna Gaines Join Hit Reality Show
Chip & Joanna Gaines starred on the popular HGTV show Fixer Upper for years. The show ended in 2018 after five seasons. In 2022, the couple launched the Magnolia Network. One of its first shows was a revival of Fixer Upper. It was recently announced that the two popular TV stars are joining a hit reality show.
Chip & Joanna Gaines Under Fire For Back to the Frontier
Chip and Joanna Gaines share a passion for design. But they are more than just co-stars. The couple married in 2003 and have five children together. Their HGTV show, Fixer Upper, helped spawn a slew of renovation shows. Chip and Joanna left the network, which is now rumored to be on the verge of cancellation, and started their own network.
The Magnolia Network officially debuted in 2022 after a soft launch in 2020. One of the network’s first shows was a Fixer Upper revival. The show continues to air on Magnolia. The last spinoff, Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse, aired in 2024.
But Chip and Joanna Gaines aren’t just interested in fixing up houses. Their new Magnolia Network show, Back to the Frontier, sends three families back in time to try to make it as pioneers in the 1880s. The premise sounds wholesome, so why are Chip and Joanna facing backlash?
Back to the Frontier features three families living like pioneers. One of the families is a same-s*x couple with two sons. Chip and Joanna Gaines have been open about their Christian faith.
The decision to feature a gay couple on their new reality TV show faced backlash on social media. According to PEOPLE magazine, the son of evangelist Billy Graham called the couple out on social media for including a gay couple.
Chip Gaines seemed to respond to the backlash. “Talk, ask qustns, listen.. maybe even learn. Too much to ask of modern American Christian culture. Judge 1st, understand later/never,” he wrote on Twitter.
HGTV Stars Join Shark Tank
ABC’s business-centric reality show Shark Tank has big shoes to fill after Mark Cuban left at the end of Season 16. Daniel Lubetzky, who was a frequent guest on the panel of buyers, was promoted to replace Mark Cuban. However, that may not be enough to keep viewers tuned in.
The popular reality show added a few big-name celebrities as guest investors, including Good Morning America co-host, Michael Strahan.
Chip and Joanna Gaines, whose combined net worth is estimated at $50 million, will also appear as guest investors.

When Does Season 17 Of Shark Tank Premiere?
Shark Tank is changing things up with new investors for Season 17. But that’s not the only change. The show typically airs on Friday nights but is moving to Wednesdays this fall.
Season 17 of Shark Tank premieres on Wednesday, September 24. The show will air directly after The Golden Bachelor.
