Is Gayle King Next To Leave CBS Amid Network Chaos?
Gayle King is known for her hosting duties on CBS Mornings. However, her time on the show might soon come to an end, with her contract already up in the air. An inside source has recently opened up about the network and what could be happening in King’s future.
Gayle King Is Known For Preferring One Year-Contracts
King has had a storied career in television. Previously, she served as a correspondent for The Oprah Winfrey Show. King joined CBS Mornings back in 2012, back when it was called CBS This Morning.
Back in 2024, King had signed a new deal with the network lasting one year. As it comes to an end with this upcoming September, however, there has been some questioning whether or not she would remain with the show.
According to The New York Post, an inside source claimed that it would be a “miracle” for King to stay on the show, even for another year. As the source suggested, King may want to leave the network amid poor ratings, among other issues.
As previously reported, the company is currently in upheaval with CBS CEO Wendy McMahon stepping down from her position. This also came out amid Paramount Global’s attempted merger with Skydance Media and a lawsuit from President Donald Trump concerning an interview with Kamala Harris. Because of this, there is some speculation that King may want to leave CBS to escape the drama.
According to the inside source, CBS News president Tom Cibrowski has been trying to keep things under control. However, this could be impacted by King’s leaving. As they noted, “Tom doesn’t have enough hands to plug the holes in the dam.”
Some Sources Also Suggested The Network Might Be Cutting Down On Talent
While contracts like Kings’ are usually for three years, the source noted there’s a special reason she prefers her own to only last one. She might be weighing her options on what to do next. The source commented, “Gayle sees the writing on the wall.”
In spite of being a prominent face on the network, sources claim King also doesn’t have much bargaining leverage. In fact, insiders suggest that King’s salary, which is believed to be over $10 million, may soon be considered too high with the show’s falling ratings. While King could take a pay cut, it could end up being too steep for her to willingly stay on with the show.
According to Radar Online, a source also told Hollywood insider Rob Shuter about Gayle’s possible departure. They shared, “She didn’t sign up for this mess. It’s over.”
“This is not what Gayle signed up for. She’s still one of the most respected names in news, and she’s being dragged down by chaos she can’t control.”
Another source shared, “Gayle doesn’t want her legacy tied to these ratings or this mess. She’s weighing her next move carefully, but don’t expect her to stay loyal to a network that can’t even get a morning show off the ground anymore.”
Another source also highlighted similar concerns of the network wanting to let King go. As they shared, at this time, “It’s all about saving money. But this isn’t just about real estate. They’re quietly reevaluating everything – talent included.”
