Recently, Williams spoke about the situation on NewsNation’s Banfield. During the Feb. 27 broadcast, she gave fans a first-hand account of what life was like in her assisted living facility.

As Williams noted, “Well, I don’t have the freedom to do virtually anything. As far as where I am, I’m on the fifth floor. They call it ‘the memory unit,’ so it’s for people who don’t remember anything.”

Williams continued, “I’ve met the people who live here and I’ve been here for almost a year now.” She then described the situation as “very suffocating.”

As Williams noted, many of those living in the memory unit need “pills” or similar medications. She described them as needing help with various activities, from showering to brushing their own teeth.

Williams added, “It’s the memory unit, you know what I mean? Why am I here?” She continued, “I have no idea, but I can tell you that it’s $18,000 a month, which is extremely expensive. And what do I have? I have a bedroom, and a bathroom and a window.”

Williams also took note of how long she’s been in the facility. She noted, “It’s about being in this building. I have been in the ward for over three years. It’s a long time.” The publication noted that this appeared to be a bigger issue for Williams than living in the memory unit itself.

As noted by People, Williams previously spoke out about her guardianship while on The Breakfast Club. Many of her comments at the time echoed what she shared on Banfield. At the time, she shared, “I am not cognitively impaired but I feel like I am in prison.”

“I’m in this place with people who are in their 90s and their 80s and their 70s…These people, there’s something wrong with these people here on this floor. I am clearly not.”
