Anchor Jim Acosta OUT At CNN, Shocking Details
Broadcast journalist Jim Acosta is believed to be leaving CNN. This follows the network removing Acosta’s morning show from its schedule. Notably, Acosta spent years with the network, particularly gaining fame as a White House correspondent.
Jim Acosta Joined CNN Back In 2007, Gaining Fame As A White House Correspondent
Acosta started his media career in radio. By 1994, he broke into television, first working for a Fox affiliate. The following year, he would get his first on-camera job.
Starting in 2003, Acosta would serve as a correspondent for CBS News. During his time there, he would cover stories from the Iraq War to Hurricane Katrina.

In 2007, however, Acosta would join CNN. While there, he would gain prominence as the network’s chief White House correspondent during the Obama and Trump administrations. By 2012, he would be promoted to national political correspondent. In 2021, he became the network’s chief domestic correspondent.
For over a year now, Acosta had also been the host of one of CNN’s morning shows, Newsroom. As noted by Deadline, the show was known for garnering high ratings, especially compared to other shows.
However, earlier this month, Acosta was offered a midnight ET timeslot. This is when most cable networks air reruns of programs that aired earlier in the day. According to the publication, a source claimed Acosta was suspicious over the move, even telling CEO Mark Thompson as much.
There Is Some Speculation On What Acosta’s Next Project Could Be
The move to midnight admittedly would have given Acosta a primetime position for West Coast viewers. However, it would still keep him from the prime news cycle.
At this time, it is unknown why CNN wanted the change. There is some speculation, however, that Acosta’s political background could conflict with the current administration. Due to this, the network has received some criticism over the move.

Last week, CNN announced changes to the anchor lineup. Wolf Blitzer is expected to serve as anchor for The Situation Room with Pamela Brown. The change is expected to take place in the upcoming weeks, but an exact date has not been released.
For his part, Acosta also released a Substack earlier this month. It contained the message, “Coming soon.”
As Variety noted, “Acosta is expected to seek out new ventures that he might build himself, according to the person with knowledge of the situation.” The publication suggested that he would likely have interest in releasing a digital subscription product. Other journalists known for launching similar ventures include Mehdi Hasan, who released Zeteo, and Don Lemon, who hosts a digital interview show.
