‘Curse Of Oak Island’ Team Makes Mysterious Find In Money Pit
The Curse of Oak Island team is getting closer to a breakthrough at the Money Pit on the island. In the ninth episode of Season 12 (“Brick By Brick”), the team heads back down into the Money Pit and finds possible proof there are tunnels that could lead to a vault and treasure.
Here is what the guys found in this episode and what it could mean.
Curse Of Oak Island Finds Void In The Money Pit
In the most recent Curse of Oak Island episode, the team again worked in the Money Pit, which they believe is above the possible treasure. However, they have yet to descend far enough to explore the depths and uncover the mysteries. However, this week, they found an anomaly.
The team intensified their search in the Money Pit, looking for the Chappell Vault. This is what they called the treasure chamber mentioned in Oak Island lore. They kept digging there, which seemed to be an unending prospect. However, during this dig, they encountered something strange.
As they dug deeper, they encountered a void. This mysterious, cavern-like area provided no answers but offered plenty of questions for the team. However, while they found the void, they uncovered no new treasure. Although the discovery increased their dreams of getting closer, they still hoped to discover more items to make it real.
The Team Finds Copper Button On Lot 5
While they found the void in the Money Pit, the Curse of Oak Island team found another trinket on the island. On Lot 5, they used a metal detector and found what might be a copper button from the 1700s.
Emma Culligan, one of the team’s specialists, analyzed the button and confirmed its historical significance. She said it might have a personal connection with Sir William Phips, a known treasure hunter (via Monsters & Critics).
The team also found more in the swamp. They discovered bricks, which they feel are linked to Spanish treasures. They think there was a historical construction in the area. However, any actual evidence is only speculatory. Marty Lagina said he didn’t believe they would find anything else there and was already giving up on it.
However, Geoscientist Dr. Ian Spooner said the bricks were handmade. Rick Lagina mentioned treasure seeker Anthony Graves, who lived near the swamp but never found anything on the island. In the end, the team found the button, bricks likely tied to former treasure seekers, and enjoyed a breakthrough in the Money Pit with the void.

Worst show on TV. Worst narrated show on TV. Worst scripted show on TV. I hope the Lagina’s are making a ton of money making the show.
It’s a great show made interesting by getting to know the people who are working together on this quest. Their knowledge, in their different fields, is fascinating and often sends me looking for more information in history and geography books. Most recent was an ornate button – seemingly showing a floral design. I immediately thought of the War of the Roses, in Britain, but then had to look it up to be sure of dates. Seems the button was earlier than that – but did servants of the British Kings have livery with floral (rose) designs even earlier in history?
I am done with this pony show. NOTHING IS GOING TO BE FOUND. right before a commercial they find something that is meaningless. there is a better chance that oil, gold or big foot will be found in my back yard. oak island is dead. find another show to watch. this show jumped the shark 🦈. like they said on the show, let’s move on….
Anything found, in my opinion, beyond the 19th century is a treasure. It may not be jewels or money but it is treasures of history of what or who is or has been on the island.
The swamp is very interesting. Wondering, if there were 2 islands, why was it filled in to make one? Is there a pirate ship or shipping vessel buried there?
Rick and Marty are doing everything possible to keep everyone as safe as they possibly can. Six have died in the search. Legend says seven must die before the treasure can be found.
I will continue watching the show and do not believe it is a scam. It takes a lot of money to rent equipment, archeologists and all the other specialists and workers. They are fulfilling their dreams, what I’m sure a lot of people wish they could do! KEEP DIGGING ❤️
