‘Swamp People’ Joey Edgar Explains Drastic Weight Loss
It has been almost a year since fans began to worry about Swamp People star Joey Edgar and his massive weight loss. At the time, fans were worried that he was undergoing some serious medical problems and began to think the worst. In this week’s episode, he finally opened up about the weight loss, and it isn’t as bad as many might have thought.
Here is what caused Joey’s weight loss and what it means for his role as a gator hunter.
Joey Edgar Reveals Cause Of Drastic Weight Loss
The news just broke that Joey Edgar’s daughter Kallie is joining Swamp People with her dad. This is great news as the Edgar family has always been part of the reality TV series, and this keeps up that tradition. However, this news was also joined by something Joey said about his dramatic weight loss on the show this week.

On the Swamp People Season 16 premiere, Joey finally admitted that his weight loss was due to medical reasons. However, he isn’t sick, and he doesn’t have a scary disease. He has diabetes, and he had to change what he eats and make some lifestyle changes to bring his blood sugar back under control.
However, his weight loss also comes with an unexpected side effect. Because he is so much thinner, he has also lost muscle mass, which means he can’t really pull the gators out of the swamp after they kill them. As a result, they have set up a winch on his boat to get the gators into since he can’t pull them in anymore.
However, the good news is that the weight loss was to improve his health, and it isn’t because he is falling into bad health.
Swamp People Also Bringing In Joey Edgar’s Daughter
As they ease things up on Joey Edgar, he is bringing in his daughter Callie to join the team. This should give him a little more help as well as strengthen the family’s already strong bond.
Executive producer Brian Catalina had a bit to say about Callie joining her dad on Swamp People (via TV Insider).
“I think as Mr. Daniel begins to grow a little bit older, Joey is stepping into a larger role,” the producer said. “Then there has to be someone coming up behind him, and that’s probably going to be his daughter Callie. We’re getting to witness him bring her into the family business through alligator hunting, which is a very important step in the evolution of that family.”

It is sad to watch him, not be able to pull in an alligator like he used to. I realize he needed to lose some weight because of his diabetes, but I’m thinking he’s gone a little too far now.
I doubt that dieting is the cause of the weight loss. Since it came on so quickly its almost sure to be cancer. Lots of people have it in lots of forms.
Agreed. Losing weight isn’t any guarantee your diabetes will disappear. It’s gotta be something else.
The family will pull together and get it done.Better to have his daughter and the winch to use, than not have Joey and all of his experience to pass on.It is a family tradition. God bless him and his family. LET THE GATERS BEWARE CALLIE IS COMING FOR THEM!!
well said, totally agree
This is what it’s all about. Family helping each other while teaching & showing respect to one another. Callie is learning from someone that takes it step by step & doesn’t lose his temper. Nice to see on today’s tv shows. Need more of it.
Congratulations to you Mr. Joey Edgar and welcome to you Miss Callie ! I’ve watched Swamp People since day one !! Mr. Joey, I need your recipe’s as I’m a diabetic myself but I’ve never been able to lose weight!! The last time I tried all I lost was about 10 lbs but I got so malnourished I had to quit and start eating double doses of protein powders and liquid drinks ! I’m back to feeling good again, back on my See Food Diet!! I SEE FOOD AND I EAT IT !!!! A loyal fan ! Forever

he looks bad .needs to gain a few pounds hard to see him like that
I agree…..why isn’t the rest of the family eating the same as Joey?….. Support like that can really help!!!!!
I have watched from the beginning and loved the show so much. Loved the families and how they help each other during times of crisis. Have a Cajun friend here that says he met some of those guys before he left LA. Had a lot of family join him here after Katrina. Hope everyone stays healthy for more years to come. I pray for their success when Gator season starts and for protection from the storms that come their way.
I’m just so happy he doesn’t have a serious ill ness. He and his wife and kids seem to be such a happy active family and I’m glad he can still be with them. I really like him on the show. He’s so laidback.
I have so much respect and love for the Edgar family it is unmeasurable. coming from the northeast its a hard to state but I guarantee this is a beautiful family with all the strengths and struggles of any other American family. glad to hear he isn’t deeply sick…..that was my biggest fear.. hang in there my TV friend. …. I hate T V but if I cant be out doing it I wanna watch the other pros doing it…God bless
Close to 40 of my friends are dead from the covid clot shot. One just got cancer and was dead in 32 days after three vaccines. Needless to say I never took one shot.
Love the show I have been watching since the first shows. The Edgar family is one of the best additions to the program and I love Joey. I too am a diabetic and when you loose all of the weight people think something is wrong. Lost my high school sweetheart to cancer and now I am down 115 pounds. I am healthier that ever but look sick go figure. Prayers to the Edgar family and to All of Swamp People!
happy joey is not got any cancer. i pray all the families on the show stay safe and healthy. god be with you all.
Congratulations Mr. Joey. I lost 40# when I was diagnosed with diabetes. Dr. took me off the medication after 6 months and that was 5 years ago. I have tests taken every six months and always have “normal” results. I watch what I eat and keep busy and swim for exercise.
You will get your muscle back and feel so much better.
Family is the key to any of us having a better life.
You are Blessed.
