Kellie Pickler Accuses Late Husband’s Parents Of Exploitation
Country singer Kellie Pickler tragically lost her husband Kyle Jacobs in 2023. Since then, the American Idol alum has been battling her in-laws over his estate. An inside source recently shed some light on the situation.
Kellie Pickler’s In-Laws Became Co-Administrators Of Their Late Son’s Death
Pickler first rose to prominence as a contestant on American Idol‘s fifth season. She finished the season in sixth place.
Pickler would later release her debut album, Small Town Girl, which would end up being certified gold by the RIAA. She would follow up with a few more albums over the years, including her self-titled second album.
Tragically, Pickler’s husband of twelve years, Kyle Jacobs, passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound back in 2023. He was 49 at the time of his death, which a medical examiner later ruled as a suicide.
Kellie declined to serve as the administrator of her late husband’s estate. Jacobs notably served as a songwriter for names like Tim McGraw, Clay Walker, and Kelly Clarkson. Kyle’s parents, Reed and Sharon Jacobs, then took on the role as the estate’s co-administrators.
However, since then, Pickler has been involved in a legal battle with her in-laws. As noted by In Touch, Pickler has alleged in court documents that her in-laws “entered [her] home and obtained items of personal property after [Kyle’s] death.” The suit also claims Reed and Sharon “have demanded – via a subpoena issued in the probate estate directed to [Kellie] – that [Kellie] deliver to the possession of their legal counsel.”
The Source Noted ‘Kellie’s Going Through A Hard Time”
Reportedly, the subpoena was based on a prenup Pickler signed prior to her husband’s death. However, the country star’s legal team has said she would fight the subpoena.
An insider spoke with In Touch about the situation. As they noted, “[Pickler] doesn’t believe families should exploit and prey on a grieving widow, which is what she thinks Reed and Sharon Jacobs are doing to her.” They continued, “There’s no denying Kellie’s going through a hard time.”

The insider added that “[Pickler] really believes this is important.” It was also noted, “She needs to take a stand against the wrong that has been done against her.”
“So, [Pickler’s] going to stick with it, no matter how heavy the cost, because she believes she’s in the right. It’s not something she wanted to do but she’s not the kind of person to sit back and let people walk all over her. She’s doing this for Kyle as much as for herself.”
