‘Jeopardy!’ Studio Introduces Huge Honor For Alex Trebek
While the Jeopardy! studio is state-of-the-art and constantly updated, one thing remains constant: The show always honors its long-time host, Alex Trebek. There is even one area that fans never get to see. However, the contestants and people working on the show can see it up close and honor Alex’s memory.
Here is what the show has done to ensure his memory remains alive.
Jeopardy! Studio Honors Alex Trebek
The Jeopardy! studio has a section that fans and audience members can’t see. This is backstage and features Alex Trebek’s former podium in the studio. This is not there as a gimmick, but is mostly unseen by outsiders and is there to honor Alex Trebek and his contributions to the show.
Not only is the podium on display for everyone to see, but there is also a hallway display case with the dozens of Emmy Awards that the popular game show has won over its long run (via The U.S. Sun). The show won Best Game Show, and Trebek won for Best Game Show Host, most recently in 2021.
Jeopardy! tapes its shows in Culver City, California, on the legendary Sony Pictures Studios Lot. This classic lot was home to several movies, including The Wizard of Oz and Singin’ in the Rain. The game show is housed on Stage 10, and when entering there, fans can see Alex Trebek’s legacy.
The Alex Trebek Stage Offers A Unique Experience
When entering the area, the stage’s name is displayed as “The Alex Trebek Stage.” There are also three contestant podiums that visitors can pose behind to mimic the look of the show’s contestants.
On top of Alex Trebek’s podium are some of his handwritten notes and his signature glasses. “On any tape day, you can find a variety of items on Alex’s podium. Among these are a game script, his glasses, contestant interview cards a crayon, and a Final Jeopardy! card,” a note on the podium reads.
There is also a hockey jersey with Trebek’s name on it. “Alex Trebek has the opportunity to shoot clues all over the world for Jeopardy! As an avid sports fan, one of his favorite locations was a clue shoot with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2001,” a plaque reads.
There are also shelves with board games, video games, clothing, sports memorabilia, water bottles, shirts, and more.
Alex Trebek joined Jeopardy! as the host in 1984 and served in that role until he died in 2020, making his tenure 37 seasons. He also hosted The Wizard of Odds, Double Dare, High Rollers, Battlestars, Classic Concentration, and To Tell the Truth.
