Fans Lash Out After Netflix Cancels A-List Series After One Season

Netflix is often accused of canceling popular shows before their time. One of the biggest complaints is that the streaming service often ends a show after three seasons, even if there is more story to tell. However, one recent show that premiered in 2024 has already been canceled after just one season. This is even despite it having a major star in the lead role.

Here is what show was canceled and what you need to know.

Netflix Cancels Fan-Favorite Series

While streaming services have been great in many aspects, especially in terms of creative freedom, sometimes, these services can be a little too eager to cancel shows before they truly have the chance to be fleshed out. This is exactly what happened recently with a show that people got hooked on.

Kaos is a British dark comedy fantasy series that premiered on Netflix on August 29, 2024. The series has some big names in the cast, with Jeff Goldblum as the main lead character. Joining him in the show is David Thewlis, Janet McTeer, Cliff Curtis, and Killian Scott.

In the series, Goldblum plays Zeus, the Greek god who is all-powerful yet very insecure. Cliff Curtis (Fear the Walking Dead) plays his fellow god Prometheus, and Zeus keeps him shackled to a cliffside and tortured for interfering in his rule.

This leads to Prometheus narrating the series and discussing how this is a period when the order wanes, the family falls, and Kaos reigns. The series then shows how Prometheus begins his plan to overthrow Zeus while using three unwitting mortal humans: Eurydice, Caeneus, and Ariadne.

The series had eight episodes in the first season, and it ended on a cliffhanger, with Ari striking a deal with the Trojans to battle the Gods. The critics enjoyed the series, with a 74% positive Rotten Tomatoes score, but it seems that it didn’t bring in the numbers that Netflix needed to bring it back for a second season.

Will Kaos Find New Life Elsewhere?

Netflix canceled the Jeff Goldblum fantasy series Kaos after just one season (via The U.S. Sun). The announcement came just three months after it premiered on the streaming service, meaning that the 30 and 60-day viewing numbers were not enough to warrant more money being spent on the series.

Aurora Perrineau, who plays Eurydice on Kaos, sent out a since-deleted social media post announcing the cancelation as well. “Well… this one hurts. I find explaining how I’m feeling to be really difficult, but I’ll try,” she wrote. “You’re telling me that someone thinks I could be one of the leads of a show, have agency, my own mission, and be desirable enough to be the love interest to not only one amazing human but two? I was worthy of that? Everything that happened from that point forward really changed my perspective.”

Someone asked in the comments if she was saying the show was canceled, and she responded, “Sadly, yes.” There is a chance that another streaming service could pick it up, as it has happened before. With Jeff Goldblum in the lead role, it has a major star. Fans will just have to wait to see what showrunner Charlie Covell plans to do next.
