They said, “When Fixer Upper premiered 10 years ago, we couldn’t have imagined the journey we had ahead of us. Though a lot has changed and evolved in the decade between then and now, our love for home is still at the heart of everything we do.” Further adding, “We feel honored that we get to continue pouring into the stories of these homes across Waco, and we’re excited to share our latest project with you this summer with Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse.” However, some people notice the “happy” couple are constantly bickering in their shows.

HGTV Chip & Joanna Gaines’ Bickering Is For Entertainment?

On Reddit, Fixer Upper viewers started a thread about Chip and Joanna Gaines and their constant arguing. Some people think that the incessant bickering is a schtick for the show. First, a user says, “Chip and Joanna Gaines are Insufferable.” Additionally, the user explains, “I was watching this season’s house fixer upper. An entire season dedicated to ONE lake house. Every episode they bicker about saving $5,000 on things that will make the house objectively better. This is a couple getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars just to renovate this one house on TV. The corner cutting and saving doesn’t make sense at all, when the house comes out half assed compared to the original vision. The show gives off major ‘How do you do fellow fixer uppers?’ vibes, when you know it’s literally just a money printing machine.”

  • Someone else comments, “Home improvement reality TV is the most creatively bankrupt style of show ever.”
  • Another person adds, “Not sure this opinion is as unpopular as you might think…”
  • “Yuck! My friend once said Chip reminds him of a belligerent drunk-😂 and I just can’t unsee it.”
  • “They have become too conceited to be enjoyable anymore and have lost touch on normal life. Sort of like Martha Stewart before prison.”

Other People Have Thoughts About Chip And Joanna Gaines

While many people adore Chip and Joanna Gaines and their kids, not everyone enjoys them. For some people, their style of back-and-forth disputes over what to include or leave off grates on them. Further, it seems it could be an act.

  • “My sister works in reality tv. It’s all scripted…they have producers who tell the people how to act and what to say.  So don’t try to make sense of any decisions as if they were made in reality.”
  • “I’ve had friends that have worked both behind and in front of the cameras for ‘reality’ tv, and I second this. The producers are calling the shots to stir things up for entertainment value.”

  • “It’s reality television. If they didn’t manufacture drama, nobody would watch. It’s a working formula. If you dislike the formula (as many do) then you probably should stick to scripted entertainment (as many do).”
  • “I just hate their tastes. My wife made me watch a couple episodes of this show and I found their own house that they kept showing off at the end of each episode hideous.”
  • Someone else adds, “‘Kiddos’. ‘Doggos’. SHIPLAP!!!!!!!!”

Home Sweet Home

After some people discussed how Chip and Joanna Gaines’ bickering is part of the allure for viewers, others gave a glimpse of how people from Waco view the couple.

  • “Not unpopular. I’m a Waco native Funny enough I knew them both before they were famous. She was always insufferable, even in college. Chip was a legitimate nice guy. He came to a bunch of my high school basketball games when he was in college, because he was close to my brother.”
  • “Yeah I’ve heard really bad things about her specifically, shes described as a nightmare lol.”

  • “I currently live in Waco, I’m a manager at a hotel that was the center point of one of their latest shows. Chip and Joanna bring in about 30,000 people A WEEK to Waco. The Silo’s are booming every day of the week. Waco locals hate them. We hate them. I hate the clientele at my job, they’re the most insufferable group of people I’ve ever worked with in my tenure in the hospitality industry. Waco is abysmal, never go.”
  • “I live in the area they reside and the gossip I’ve heard about them really paints them in a not great light.”
