Kim Works with Murphy on the Set

Before the release of the show, Kardashian reached out to Monsters creator Murphy. Kim starred in Murphy’s American Horror Story: Delicate alongside Emma Roberts which premiered in September of 2023 and resumed in April earlier this year after the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Murphy explained during Netflix’s FYC panel in Los Angeles on November 2nd how it all went down.

“Kim Kardashian called me a month before the show came out and asked to see it, and I said, sure, she’s a friend, and she is somebody who’s very into prison reform, and she instantly got involved, and the DA and the governor’s office were flooded with a lot of reactions from people who had big opinions about the show. So I do think it led to something interesting, and more important to me, when you make something, whether people love it or hate it, is beside the point, does it launch a conversation about something? I think the show definitely did that in a way that [co-creator] Ian [Brennan] and I were very proud of.”

The Menedez Brothers’ Case Update

The legal team for the Menendez Brothers requested clemency for their clients, on October 28, 2024, who were convicted of two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances for lying in wait in addition to charges of conspiracy to commit murder in 1996 for the murders committed in 1989 of José and Kitty Menendez.

Kim’s Involvement

In an April “ Variety Actors on Actors” conversation with Monsters star Chloe Sevigny, Kardashian discussed her childhood connection to the brothers. At the time of the murders her family home was just under 2 miles from the Menendez home.

“I grew up right down the street from the house where it all happened, and everyone went to the same schools,” she said. “I remember hearing about the case, but my dad drove me by the house and told me the story.”

Kim has a history of advocating for prison reform and clemency for those who have been underserved by the justice system. She has posted in support of the brothers on her Instagram and visited the brothers in prison,  “I have spent time with Lyle and Erik; they are not monsters. They are kind, intelligent, and honest men.” Kim said in her NBC News opinion piece.

“Had this crime been committed and trialed today, I believe the outcome would have been dramatically different. I also strongly believe that they were denied a fair second trial and that the exclusion of crucial abuse evidence denied Erik and Lyle the opportunity to fully present their case, further undermining the fairness of their conviction.”

“We owe it to those little boys who lost their childhoods, who never had a chance to be heard, helped, or saved.”
