Kim Kardashian Wants The Menendez Brothers Released
The trajectory of Kim Kardashian‘s life has been interesting to follow. She has transformed from a reality TV star into someone who takes prison reform seriously. Kim decided to pursue a career as a lawyer because she feels disgusted by the way prison systems currently operate. The latest case that’s caught Kim’s attention is the case of the Menendez brothers. The SKIMS founder published a personal essay with NBC News to explain why she doesn’t believe they should remain in prison. From Kim’s perspective, Erik and Lyle Menendez deserve to be freed right away. These are the details.
Kim Kardashian Wants The Menendez Brothers Out Of Jail
Kim published her heartfelt essay on October 3, 2024. This isn’t the first time the makeup mogul has gone out of her way to fight for prison reform or to argue for someone’s release from lock-up. Kim might feel super interested in the Menendez brothers’ case because a recent Netflix limited series was just released in their honor. In Kim’s essay, she wrote:
”Erik and Lyle’s case became entertainment for the nation, their suffering and stories of abuse ridiculed in skits on Saturday Night Live. The media turned the brothers into monsters and sensationalized eye candy — two arrogant, rich kids from Beverly Hills who killed their parents out of greed. There was no room for empathy, let alone sympathy.”
Kim is no stranger to public ridicule, as haters and trolls have dragged her for more than a couple of decades now. When Kim‘s sex tape with her ex-boyfriend, Ray J, was allegedly leaked to the public, Kim immediately faced tons of criticism from strangers around the world.
Why Kim Kardashian Is Understanding Toward The Menendez Brothers
The term “cyberbullying” hadn’t been coined in the early 2000s. That’s when Kim‘s reality TV show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, first premiered. However, she was certainly on the receiving end of “cyberbullying” starting at that point. Since she understands how painful ridicule can be, it makes sense that she resonates with what the Menendez brothers are going through. Later in her essay, she wrote:
“In prison, they both have exemplary disciplinary records. They have earned multiple college degrees, worked as caregivers for elderly incarcerated individuals in hospice, and been mentors in college programs — committed to giving back to others. We owe it to those little boys who lost their childhoods, who never had a chance to be heard, helped, or saved.”
The Netflix limited series that was released about them is called Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. It offers nine episodes for viewers to watch. A separate documentary style movie simply called The Menendez Brothers will also land on Netflix on Monday, October 7.
