Carson Daly Reveals How He Dealt With Mental Health Struggles
Today host Carson Daly has been open about his mental health struggles. He annually attends the Project Healthy Minds Gala. More so, he also works hard to advocate for mental health awareness. At this year’s Gala, Daly opened up about something interesting that has really helped him with his mental health balance.
Here is what Daly said he is doing that has helped him get better.
Carson Daly Talks Mental Health Condition
Carson Daly was at the Project Healthy Minds Gala this year with his Today co-host, Savannah Guthrie. He took the time in an interview to reflect on the last year and how he has really come out of a tough time in his life since that appearance.
“One year ago I was at this event at maybe one of the lower points in my mental health,” Daly said in an interview (via Page Six). “Physically and mentally, I was a wreck, and I thought, ‘Next year I want to get better,’”
Daly has been open about his mental health issues since 2018. It was then that he admitted that he struggles with panic attacks and anxiety. He now has revealed what has really helped him with his mental health issues, and it is a slight surprise. However, it isn’t just medication and therapy. Rather, he has something he does daily that has helped as well.
“I’ve cold-plunged every day for a year,” Carson said. “I have a home cold plunge. 40 degrees, literally two minutes every day. It’s really hard to do, and it turns out doing hard things is good for you.”
Savannah Guthrie Has Tried The Cold Plunge As Well
While this is something that Carson Daly does to help with his mental health, Savannah Guthrie said it isn’t for her. She said she tried it but only lasted for 30 seconds.
“But I’m glad I did it,” Savannah admitted. “It’s actually an amazing thing to do, but you have to have the guts to just dive in. You can’t tiptoe in it.”
As for Carson, he also admitted that the old Seinfeld joke about cold plunges is true. He said there is “shrinkage. Yes, fact of life.”
Carson also stated that he is open and honest with his kids about mental health issues. “Their whole lives, they know two types [of health], there’s physical health and mental health,” Daly said. His kids range from four to 15, and he talks “to them like they were 30 years old” (via PEOPLE).
Even when he and his wife do couples therapy, their kids know. “‘Marriage is hard. This helps mom and dad out.’ That’s how I talk to my kids.”
