Melissa McCarthy Signs On For JonBenét Ramsey Miniseries
In a shocking decision, a new miniseries about JonBenét Ramsey’s death is coming out for Paramount+. Two major movie stars are also signing on to play Ramsey’s parents: Melissa McCarthy will play her mother, and Clive Owen will play her father.

Melissa McCarthy To Play JonBenét Ramsey’s Mother
Paramount+ is making a miniseries about the death of JonBenét Ramsey. This will be a limited series that Paramount+ ordered on Thursday. To make the deal better, Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen signed on to play the little girl’s parents in the series.
Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids) and Clive Owen (Closer) signed on to play JonBenét’s parents, Patsy and John. The eight-episode series will be titled JonBenét Ramsey, although that is likely to change when it finally arrives on the streaming service.
The series will follow the unsolved murder of JonBenét Ramsey. She was a six-year-old beauty queen when she was murdered. The miniseries will follow “the Ramsey family before and after the tragedy as they go through the painful loss of a child while facing intense public scrutiny caused by a media frenzy that caused this case to captivate an entire nation.”
The parents were both suspects initially but were eventually cleared of all suspicion. This will look mostly at the parents and not the young murdered child.
“At the heart of the series, it is the story of Patsy and John Ramsey, exploring the unbreakable partnership of these two complex people — as husband and wife, as mother and father — who had committed themselves and their children to building the narrative of a perfect, privileged life, only to have it destroyed one Christmas night in 1996.”
When To Expect The JonBenét Ramsey Miniseries
Melissa McCarthy will not only star in the series as Patsy, but she will also serve as an executive producer. Richard LaGravenese (Behind the Candelabra) will also produce it, while Anne Sewitsky (Presumed Innocent) will direct four episodes, including the premiere.
Production is about to start in Calgary, Canada. Jeff Grossman, who serves as Paramount+’s executive vice president of programming, said, “JonBenét Ramsey continues to be one of the country’s most fascinating unsolved murders. The incredible talent of Melissa McCarthy, Clive Owen and the creative team led by Richard LaGravenese will illuminate her story with the acuity and nuance it deserves” (via TV Line).
With the movie going into pre-production now, don’t expect it to arrive on Paramount+ until late in 2025 at the earliest.
