Matt Stone and Trey Parker have never been scared of controversy. However, they showed they are unwilling to take on the upcoming controversies this year. As a result, the duo chose to delay the next season until 2025. The creators don’t want to deal with the real-world headaches of 2024.

Here is why Matt and Trey chose to push off South Park until 2025.

South Park Won’t Be Back Until 2025

Any fan who hoped to see a new season of South Park in 2024 will be disappointed. Many fans wanted to see Matt Stone and Trey Parker deliver their scathing criticism of the upcoming presidential election, but the creators want nothing to do with it.

While there will be plenty of chances to spoof the upcoming presidential election, Matt and Trey are tapping out. This is unusual for them since they usually attack all real-world issues with no abandon. That won’t happen this year.

“We’ve tried to do South Park through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing to—it’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance,” Matt Stone said (via Vanity Fair).

“Obviously, it’s fu**ing important, but it kind of takes over everything, and we just have less fun.” Trey Parker said, “I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump.”

As a result, they are skipping Trump and his attempt for reelection in 2024. Another reason for the delay is that their streaming home, Paramount, is still “figuring things out.” They also planned to skip Trump “on purpose.”

South Park Has A Special Coming Out In 2024

While there will be no new season of South Park in 2024, fans of the series will get something different. A new documentary called ¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor! is coming this month.

¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor! hits select theaters on September 13 and then will stream on Paramount+ later in the fall. Arthur Bradford directs the documentary. He also directed the previous South Park documentary 6 Days to Air: The Making of South Park, which picked up an Emmy nomination.

This new documentary follows Parker and Stone buying the Mexican restaurant in Lakewood, Colorado, they previously honored in a classic South Park episode, “Casa Bonita” over 20 years ago. The landmark meant a lot to the two, so they spent millions of dollars revitalizing it.

Every part of the purchase and renovation is detailed in the documentary, warts and all.

Are you disappointed South Park is not offering up its new season until 2025? Does it surprise you that Matt Stone and Trey Parker are delaying it because of the presidential election? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
