‘Pokemon’ Voice Actor Dead At 46

It has been confirmed that Pokemon voice actor Rachael Lillis has passed away. She was well-known for voicing Misty and Jessie in the popular animated show. A fellow Pokemon castmate shared the news. She was only 46.

Beloved Pokemon Voice Actor Passes Away After Battle With Cancer

Rachael died on Saturday, August 10 after battling cancer. Veronica Taylor, who provided the voice for Ash Ketchum, shared the news on Monday via social media.

Veronica wrote on X, “Rachael was an extraordinary talent, a bright light that shone through her voice whether speaking or singing,” Taylor wrote. “She will be forever remembered for the many animated roles she played, with her iconic performances as Pokemon’s Misty and Jessie being the most beloved.”

The Pokemon voice actor was first diagnosed with breast cancer in May.  Veronica’s tribute mentioned the outpouring of love and support Rachael received from her fans, sharing that it “truly made a difference.”

She added, “Her family also wishes to thank you as they take this time to grieve privately. A memorial is being planned for a future date.”

Eric Stuart, who worked behind the scenes on Pokemon, shared Veronica’s post and added his own heartfelt words. He shared that Rachael Lillis “was one of the funniest, sweetest, kindest people.” Eric continued, “My dear friend for so many years. Celebrate her life by watching OG Pokemon, especially Team Rocket, she will always be my partner in comedic crime. RIP my friend.”

A Career Beyond Pokemon, A Voice Of The 90s

There is no doubt that Rachael made a huge impression on millennials growing up in the late 1990s. She voiced Misty, a water-type trainer, and Jessie, the Team Rocket villain.

She also provided the sounds for other beloved characters on the show, including popular Pokemon like Jigglypuff and Goldeen. Rachael provided the voice for Jigglypuff in the Detective Pikachu movie in 2019 as well as five Super Smash Bros. video games. However, her talents and career expanded beyond Pokemon.

Her voice led her to land different roles in several different anime series. Some of her credits include Berserk, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, Sonic X, Gokudo, and Your Lie In April. Beyond the world of anime, she also provided voices for characters in other animated series such as Winx Club and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

There are also a number of video games with Rachael Lillis mentioned in the credits. She voiced characters in Lego Jurassic World, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, and Valkyrie Profile.

The Pokemon voice actor has also written scripts for anime series. She had her hand in the scripts for Boogiepop Phantom and K.O. Beast.

Rachael Lillis is the second OG Pokemon cast member to die. Maddie Blaustein, known for the voice of Meowth, passed away in 2008.
