Robin Roberts along with her co-hosts, George Stephanopoulos, Gio Benitez, and Lara Spencer, sat down with Shaq on Wednesday. The former basketball star has been promoting his new game show Lucky 13.

During his time on GMA, Shaq spoke to Robin and the rest of the crew about the idea behind the show. Apparently, contestants are asked to answer 13 true or false questions for a chance at winning $1 million.

Shaq is set to host the new game show with Gina Rodriguez. Speaking about his new co-host, he told the GMA anchors, “She is so funny, she is so talented. I remember when they were asking me who I’d like to do the show with, and she was the first person I picked.”

The NBA star added, “She’s very quick, very beautiful, and awesome.” Then, being slick, he turned to Robin Roberts and Lara Spencer and said, “Reminds me of you two young ladies.”

Robin joked back, “I was ’bout to say, I’m sorry we were not available, I’m sorry. But I’m glad Gina was there for you.” Lara added, “We’re your backups.”

Following one of the commercial breaks, George Stephanopoulos told viewers at home that he wished they had a camera on Shaq during the break. “That’d have been better than anything else you’ve seen on this show, and it is a great show!” he said. Lara agreed, saying that Shaq made the Pop News segment special that day.

Not everything was about Shaq’s new game show though. Robin Roberts gave the basketball legend praise for uplifting the players in the WNBA. Specifically, she said that he was great for supporting some of the new stars in the sport, including up-and-coming stars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.

Shaq responded, “Well, the crazy thing is, we’ve always experienced [women’s success in basketball]. It’s just that they weren’t getting a lot of coverage. But now because of social media and TV, they’re getting a lot of coverage.”

Then, the former NBA player pointed out that Robin Roberts has a pretty good record on the court as well. “I actually think the girls play the game a little bit harder and a little bit better than the guys,” Shaq said before expressing his admiration for Kelsey Plum of the Las Vegas Aces.
