Are ‘Tracker’ Stars Jensen Ackles & Melissa Roxburgh Leaving?
Tracker had big moments in the first season that introduced two characters who seemed like they would be big parts of Season 2. These two characters were Colter Shaw’s (Justin Hartley) brother and sister. Jensen Ackles played Russell Shaw, and Melissa Roxburgh played Dory.
However, both Ackles and Rosburgh have signed on to star in new shows, which suggests they might not be able to return to their Tracker roles. Here is what Hartley said fans can expect from these characters in the second season.
Will Colter Shaw’s Brother & Sister Be Back In Tracker Season 2?
Tracker is about Colter Shaw, a man who is a “tracker” and hires himself out to people who need to find someone who has disappeared. However, while the first season had several stand-alone adventures for Colter, his childhood and history played out throughout the season.
On the May 5 episode, Colter’s younger sister showed up. Roxburgh (Manifest) plays Dory, a college professor who has their dad’s former journals and research papers in her possession. This put her at odds with her brother since she told him to let go and move on, and she was still holding onto the past.
The very next week, Colter had another sibling show up. This was his older brother Russell (Ackles), an ex-military man who works as a contractor. The brothers are estranged as Colter thinks that Russell pushed their father to his death. Russell says he never did it, but he doesn’t discount that someone else did.
This makes it sound like both had a role coming in Season 2. However, both actors signed on for their own upcoming TV shows. With that in mind, it sounds like they will be back on Tracker despite their other shows.
Showrunner Elwood Reid said in a recent interview that both stars are returning. “We got him. He’s coming back,” said Reid (via TV Line). “We’re having fun with that. It’s a great story.” He then said Roxburgh was also signed to return, saying, “We’ll unpeel some more stuff with his sister.”
What Are Jensen Ackles & Melissa Roxburgh’s New Shows About?
As for the new shows, both Jensen Ackles and Melissa Roxburgh will play big roles in their respective series, which should limit the time they have for supporting roles in other shows.
Roxburgh has signed on to lead the NBC midseason drama The Hunting Party, while Ackles will star in the forthcoming Amazon thriller Countdown.
The Hunting Party is a crime procedural series coming to NBC. It is about a small team of investigators who track down the most dangerous serial killers the country has ever seen. The killers all just escaped from a top-secret prison that is not supposed to exist. This will be a midseason premiere.
Countdown is an Amazon Prime Video thriller from One Chicago veteran Derek Haas. There was a 13-episode order for the first season, and Ackles helped develop the series. Ackles plays LAPD officer Mark Meachum (Ackles), who investigates a murder in broad daylight with a special task force of undercover agents who find a sinister plot underway.
