Roseanne Actor Martin Mull Dead At 80

Martin Mull has sadly passed away on Thursday, June 27th, after a long illness. He was eighty years old. According to TV Line, his daughter, Maggie, shared the heartbreaking news via Instagram:

“I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th, after a valiant fight against a long illness. He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials. He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny. My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and — the sign of a truly exceptional person — by many, many dogs. I loved him tremendously.”

Martin was best known for his role as Leon Carp, Roseanne’s snippy boss on the show of the same name, from 1991 through 1997. He then played Sabrina’s annoying and rule-abiding principal, Mr. Kraft on Sabrina the Teenage Witch starring Melissa Joan Hart. Martin was there from Seasons 2 through 4 while also starring on Arrested Development and Veep. The latter earned him an Emmy nomination. Upon hearing the news of his passing, his former co-stars immediately spoke out on his behalf.

Michael Fishman, who played DJ Conner on both Roseanne and The Conners, wrote this:

“Martin Mull is a legend. He was a tremendous talent, who was always funny. As amazing as he was on camera, he was even more incredible off. The world was better with him in it. Perhaps the other side needed more laughter.”

Melissa Joan Hart, who played Sabrina Spellman, shared a photo of her and Martin from a Season 2 episode. They are dressed as hippies and smiling:

No Greater Love

It seemed like Martin Mull brought so much warmth and humor to everyone who met him or had the pleasure of working with or simply watching him on the screen. Yet, he had no greater love than his pups and his family. The actor, who seemingly hid his illness, leaves behind his daughter, Maggie, and his wife, Wendy Haas. Additionally, he was a well-educated man with both a BFA and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. His legacy will live on through all of his shows and the hearty laughter he brought to millions.

Rest in peace, Martin. Love and light to your family and all who knew and loved you.
