‘Live’ Kelly Ripa Shares What Parents Hated About Their Marriage

Live with Kelly and Mark hosts, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos were in good spirits on June 6 during the ABC morning talk show. However, they got serious when they spoke about their elopement and how their parents hated it. If you don’t know, they had a fight, split, made up, and it was so good that they immediately eloped.

Live with Kelly and Mark fans recently saw some throwback footage and heard a lot about the wedding when they did a tribute in February. For their twenty-eighth wedding anniversary, the couple flew into Las Vegas. There, they visited the chapel where they tied the knot. Their elopement came back in 1996, so it was a big trip down memory lane.

Live Kelly Ripa fans know that she and Mark met on the set of All My Children. There, they were in love, and they later became real-life lovers. However, when they married, hardly anyone knew they tied the knot because they kept it a secret. Even their parents were unaware of the big decision.

Live With Kelly And Mark Hosts Talked About Eloping

After bantering and laughing a lot on June 6, the ABC hosts talked about how lovely New York City is at this time of the year. They chatted about the news highlights and did their usual trivia show. However, People reported that they became a bit more serious as the show progressed. They started talking about how people should think twice before eloping.

Live Kelly Ripa said to her talk show audience:

None of our parents like the fact that we eloped. Spoiler alert: if you’re planning on eloping, your parents will hate that.

Mark Consuelos agreed that his parents “hated” their elopement initially. However, they accepted it eventually. Moving on, the ABC couple discussed “arranged marriages.” Talking about divorce rates, it was interesting that Kelly Ripa cited some statistics. She said, “The national divorce average is around 50%.” Meanwhile, the “arranged marriage divorce rate is 4%.” So, Live Kelly quipped, “Parents know what they’re talking about.” 

Would they ever consider arranged marriages for their own children? Well, apart from the fact that it’s not part of their culture, there were other things to consider. However, if it were allowed then she probably would choose the right partner for her kids.
