Could Tom Selleck’s Series ‘Blue Bloods’ Get A Spinoff?

Blue Bloods fans are still heartbroken that CBS has canceled Tom Selleck’s long-running series. However, some recent news could give fans of the family drama and police procedural some hope. Could there possibly be a spinoff?

CBS Parent Company Head Hints At Blue Bloods Spinoff
Could there possibly be a spinoff series of everyone’s favorite police drama Blue Bloods? According to a recent report by TV Line, it seems more likely. The television industry publication reported that on Tuesday, Brian Robbins, the Paramount Global co-CEO made a surprising announcement. This was at the annual stockholders meeting.
In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods.
Robbins also added that “CBS hit Fire Country shows huge promise.” For over six months, there has been a rumbling about a spinoff of that series named Sheriff Country, starring Lorena Baccarin.
However, despite the publication reaching out to CBS regarding clarification on Blue Bloods, CBS did not make any sort of confirmation.
CBS Canceled Tom Selleck’s Long-Running Series
When Blue Bloods returns in the Fall for the second part of Season 14, it will be the end of the long-running series. This is pretty shocking as it is the eighth-most watched series on linear television this season. However, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach has been firm that this series, as well as NCIS: Hawaii would be canceled.
When speaking about the Tom Selleck-led series, stated, “We love this cast, we love their passion for the show. All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule.”
Therefore, could a spinoff possibly keep the DNA of the popular series, while keeping the schedule “fresh”? That seems possible.
Could A Blue Bloods Spinoff Be A Prequel?
Some ideas that CBS may entertain for Blue Bloods is a prequel-sequel similar to the Big Bang Theory spinoff, Young Sheldon, or upcoming NCIS spinoff NCIS: Origins. The network loves nothing more than to go back to the past and retell it.
Joe Reagan was Frank’s oldest son who died in the line of duty right before the CBS series started. From the beginning of the CBS police procedural, finding Joe’s killer was a priority, as was dealing with his death. However, the family never fully healed from losing Joe Reagan. Of course, Joe Hill, his son, is a big part of this series as well.
Therefore, it seems possible that this could be a potential spinoff for CBS.
Blue Blood fans, what story or character do you think would make a good spinoff? Would you like to go back in time? Or, would you rather have the network continue another storyline in the current day?
