Former Bachelor Ben Higgins has more details to share about his split from Lauren Bushnell, his former fiancée from the show. The two got engaged on the season 20 finale in March 2016 but called off their engagement in 2017 after starring in their own spin-off series, Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?

Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell jumped from one reality TV show right into another without a chance to enjoy their engagement. The CW show Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After? was supposed to follow their journey to marital bliss. But they never even made it to the aisle.
In a new interview on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, the former Bachelor reflected on the split. He said that the two made the decision to end their engagement just days after wrapping up filming the reality show.
But the split had actually been coming for months. “We were butting heads” about “a month” into filming the CW show, Ben told podcast hosts Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt. He revealed that at the same time as the tension, the former Bachelor Nation host, Chris Harrison, brought up the idea of a TV wedding.
Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell reluctantly agreed with the idea, but he admitted that they were already in couples therapy by that time. He said that they were “really trying to make it work.”
The former reality star recently had Kaitlyn Bristowe on his Almost Famous podcast. They reminisced about feeling hurt when their respective exes – Lauren Bushnell and Shawn Booth – tried to downplay their relationship.
However, Ben Higgins turned around and did the same thing on the Happy Hour podcast. “We were kind of more work associates,” he said about his relationship with Lauren toward the end.
He added, “We were living in the same house, we weren’t really speaking to each other off camera because the cameras would leave at nine o’clock we’d be exhausted.”
Ben Higgins has been spilling all kinds of tea lately. He weighed in on Golden Bachelor couple Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner’s divorce. All eyes were on the former Bachelor recently when his ex’s husband looked back on the first time he met Lauren Bushnell, back when she was still dating Ben. Awkward!
Former Bachelor Couple Have Both Moved On
Lauren Bushnell married country star Chris Lane in 2019, two years after she ended her engagement to Ben Higgins. The couple share two sons, Baker West and Dutton Walker.
Ben Higgins is also a married man. He married Jessica Clarke in 2021.
