It’s been eight years since Ben Higgins proposed to Lauren Bushnell during the Season 20 Bachelor finale. The two continued to document their relationship in a reality TV show Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After? for Freeform.
However, they shockingly announced in 2017 that they had ended their engagement. She went on to marry country singer Chris Lane in 2019. They share two children together, sons Dutton and Baker.
Ben Higgins married Jess Clarke in 2021, but they don’t have any children yet. He previously detailed an awkward run-in with his ex’s husband, Chris Lane.
The country crooner took to his Instagram earlier to reflect on the first time he met his now-wife at a music festival in Austin, Texas. But the photo also included Ben Higgins, whom Lauren Bushnell was dating at the time.
His post received a lot of negative comments. One fan wrote, “Such a tasteless post with her ex fiancé in it.” Another added, “This is such a ballsy post.”
Ben Higgins popped into the comment section. He wrote, “I had big big plans for the two of you . Life works out exactly as it should my man.” The “big, big plans” part of his comment refers to Chris Lane’s song “Big, Big Plans” that he wrote about Lauren Bushnell.
Many people praised his response as “classy,” but what did he REALLY think of the photo that went viral.
His Honest Reaction To Viral Photo
Ben Higgins added a second comment to his first one. He joked, “I knew I shouldn’t have let you two stand next to each other in the photo.” But jokes aside, the Bachelor alum revealed his honest reaction to the post once it went viral.
First, Ben shared some insight on how the social media post happened. The post didn’t initially come from Chris Lane. According to Ben Higgins, someone who works at IHeartRadio shared the photos with the caption, “The moment when Chris Lane met his future wife, Lauren, at our iHeartCountry Music Festival in 2016!”
Chris Lane re-shared the same photo on his own Instagram with a different caption. Ben Higgins said on the Almost Famous podcast that he co-hosts with Ashley Iaconetti that he felt “weird” about the whole photo snafu.
“I thought it put Chris and Lauren in a very awkward situation,” he said. “I also just felt weird that there [were] pictures of Lauren and I together again. I haven’t seen a picture of Lauren I posted in a long time.”
But he also revealed that Chris Lane texted him after the photo went viral. According to Ben, it’s all good between them. “I’m so happy that he and Lauren found each other, and they have a family together,” the Bachelor Nation star said.
