‘Today’ Al Roker Gives Huge Health Update After Multiple Surgeries
Al Roker is back to work and seems good after last year’s knee surgery. However, the TODAY star is about to turn 70 and many fans wonder about his ongoing health. Roker knows his limitations and opened up to fans with a huge health update. He also talked about retirement and the possibility of more marathons in his future.
Here is what Roker said about his surgery last year and recovery.
Al Roker Talks Health Update After Surgery
Al Roker had major knee surgery last year. As he prepares to turn 70, Roker looks back on his surgery and lets fans know an update about his health condition since that time. He also talked about running a marathon and if fans can expect to see him do that again.
Al had surgery in May 2023. It consisted of a total knee replacement and it forced him to leave the TODAY show for four weeks while recovering. That is actually a short amount of time for recovery considering his age. However, the man has never shown much weakness and he returned and seemed better than ever.
This was also his second surgery in a year. In April 2022, he had his first surgery. The second had to wait because of blood clots in his legs and lungs. However, he didn’t let it stop him and he fought on to where he is back on TODAY and has mostly recovered completely.
In an interview at the Harlem School of the Arts’ 60th Anniversary Gala, Al said, “Everything’s great. Yeah, I feel good” (via US Sun). “I’ve been getting out, walking, and now the warm weather is coming, so, you know, I mean, we didn’t really have a spring, but that’s okay. It’s all good.”
What Is Next For Al Roker?
With his 70th birthday coming, many fans fear that Al might be considering retirement. This is especially concerning after his surgeries. However, that is not something that he plans to consider anytime soon.
Al has been on TODAY for 28 years and he won’t be leaving. His wife, Deborah, said that “retirement” is a “dirty word.” She said they are both still having a great time and don’t plan to stop. “We’re still exploring; We’re still discovering; We’re still traveling,” she said. “We’re doing so much of what we love.”
“That man is not retiring anytime soon. He’s got a lot of love left in him to give,” Sheinelle Jones said.
However, there is one thing that Al is retiring from. He said that he enjoyed the 2010 New York City Marathon, but he said he won’t do it again. He said it was “a foolish endeavor” and that he “sauntered” more than he ran. He said it was kind of fun, but he won’t do it again.
