‘The Last Of Us’ All The Season 2 Details So Far
The Last Of Us Season 2 is in the works. Here’s all the juicy details we know about it so far, including what to expect from the upcoming season when it premieres.
The Last Of Us Season 1 Was A Huge Hit
Post-apocalyptic shows can often be a hit or miss with audiences. Particularly in the last ten to twenty years, the genre has been done and overdone. Franchises like The Walking Dead come to mind. While it started out strong, between the original and all of the spinoffs, watchers tend to have viewing fatigue.
That was not the case with the HBO Max adaptation of The Last Of Us. Season 1 on the platform was a huge hit. Actor Nick Offerman even took home his first Emmy award for his gripping performance in Season 1, Episode 3, Long, Long Time.
The episode of The Last Of Us Season 1 featured Offerman playing one-half of two men who fell in love during the apocalypse. Following their journey through it to old age eventually tied into the larger plot, but, it also works as a beautifully written and acted standalone episode, even outside of the larger storyline.
The Last Of Us Features Two Familiar Leads
There was a bonus crossover when Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey got the lead roles in The Last Of Us. For Game of Thrones fans, viewers instantly recognized them from their roles as Oberyn Martell and Lady Lynna Mormont.
Even though Pascal and Ramsey were part of a much larger ensemble cast in the iconic series, their chemistry in scenes in The Last Of Us Season 1 is what really makes the series. Video game adaptations are notoriously awful, however, even gaming fans have praised this adaptation.
What Do We Know So Far About Season 2?
The upcoming second season is expected to follow the plot of the second video game, which was released in 2020. Things will pick up a few years after the original story.
The show hasn’t been picked up for Season 3 yet. However, series co-creator Craig Mazin previously teased that the show would likely need more than one season to portray events correctly from The Last Of Us Part II.
Season 2 will premiere in the first half of 2025. The plot will focus on the video game sequel’s events. There may be some creative deviation here and there, but, it seems they will try to stay as faithful to the source material as possible.
For sure, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are reprising their roles. There have even been other casting choices teased, like veteran actor Catherine O’Hara having a guest starring role.
Craig Mazin also said that he could easily see the show hitting four seasons. That may be getting a little ahead of things. However, it’s good to know that they are working with potentially a four-season arc, which would keep watchers invested for the long haul.
